David and Valerie Cox

David Lee Cox was born May 15, 1940, in West Frankfort, Illinois to Johnnie Edward and Beulah (Fergueson) Cox and departed this life on December 25, 2018, in Tampa, Florida at the age of seventy-eight years. Valerie Ann (Carpenter) Cox was born September 16, 1938, in Leeds, England to Charles and Phyllis (Brunton) Carpenter and departed this life on August 23, 2021, in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the age of eighty-two years. David and Valerie were united in marriage on June 7, 1966, in Leeds, England and to this union blessed with two sons: Justin and Jonathan. They were later blessed with four grandsons: Evan, Jacob, Nathan, and Logan. David and Valerie adored their grandsons and cherished the memories they made together. David graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, now Missouri S&T, in 1963 and was commissioned into the United States Army on April 22, 1963. He served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge on March 21, 1966. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life. David worked as a Civil Engineer around the globe with the United States Army Corps of Engineers and finished his career at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri before retiring to Tampa, Florida. Valerie began her professional career as a stewardess for British Overseas Air Corporation (BOAC) where she met the love of her life during a stopover in Munich, Germany. She worked for GTE Corporation while the family lived in Stuttgart, Germany and enjoyed volunteering her time at the local military thrift shops while living throughout Germany. Valerie was an avid tennis player and took great pride in raising her two sons. She enjoyed traveling with David and saw most of Europe together. David and Valerie are survived by loving sons: Justin Cox of Rolla, MO, and Jonathan Cox and wife Kimberly of Stafford, VA; four grandchildren: Evan, Jacob, Nathan, and Logan; extended family and dear friends. David is preceded in death by, his father: Johnnie and wife Nina Ruth, his mother: Beulah, and brother John Ed. Valerie is preceded in death by, her parents: Charles and Phyllis Carpenter and sister Pamela. David and Valerie will be remembered for the love they had for each other and their family. They leave behind a great legacy and will be forever missed. Memorial Services for David and Valerie Cox were held Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Bob McQueen officiating. Grandson Evan shared the Eulogy. Song selections played were “In The Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Burial with was in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Military Honors was provided by the Missouri Honors Team and American Legion Post 99. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
