Leland Gene Peterson

Leland Gene Peterson was born on September 19, 1936 in Watonwan, Minnesota to Urvan and Dora Belle Peterson. He grew up in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Leland entered the United States Navy and served six years, then he entered the United States Air Force and served his country faithfully working as an Aviation Mechanic for fourteen years before his honorable discharge and retirement on October 31, 1976. On May 18, 2010, Leland married Jeannette in Salem, Missouri after the passing of his first wife. Leland had a heart for serving from an early age and would follow the calling on his life to become an ordained minister. He went on to further his education and received a Masters's Degree in Theology. Leland was a hard worker and always stayed busy. He and Jeannette served side by side doing weekly prison and jail ministry. They had the privilege to deliver bibles to jails in thirteen counties. Leland and Jeannette also served at the Shepherd's Nook Food Pantry in any capacity that was needed. Leland was an all-around handyman. He was musically talented and played guitar and piano, as well as write songs. His skill in construction work was helpful in his ministry through the years. As his heart was for helping the community, Leland also served on the board at Green Forest School. He had a deep love for his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, Leland had a firm belief in Christ and was a faithful servant of God. A devoted member of Salem Full Gospel, his focus was about serving and helping those in need. Leland's life was marked by sincerity and genuineness. He was a humble, gentle, kind, and compassionate man. Leland lived with eternity in view and was full of joy, peace, and faith. Leland went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2021 in Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-four years. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife Jeannette Peterson of the home; children: Frank Peterson of Salem, MO, Deborah Peek and husband James of Lake Ozark, MO; grandchildren: Krystal Luebbert and husband Matt of Boss, MO, A.J. Grijalva and wife Christina of Chesapeake, VA, Chelsea Dumbach and husband Bud of Steelville, MO; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; step-daughters: Linda Swarny and husband Charlie of Tucson, AZ, Kim Martonchik and husband Richard of Howell, MI; siblings: Yvonne Falk of Clinton, MI, Jerry Peterson of Eldon, FL, Willis Peterson and wife Sharon of Lake Crystal, MN; close family friend: Seth Broussard; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death, his parents Urvan and Dora Peterson; and his first wife: Mary Jean Peterson. Leland was a friend to all who will be remembered for his passion for sharing the love of Christ. He leaves behind a great legacy and will be forever missed. Graveside Services for Leland Gene Peterson were held Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Dry Fork Cemetery with Pastor Bill Stack officiating. Special Music was provided by Sheri Stack. Serving as Pallbearers were Rick Letchworth, Bob Bereto, Josh Akers, Michael Burgdore, AJ Grijalva, and Christina Grijalva. Honorary Pallbearers were Josh Kuhn, Jacob Kuhn, James Peek, and Frank Peterson. Military Honors was provided by the United States Air Force Honors Team. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Leland Peterson to the Shepherd's Nook and left at Wilson Mortuary.
