Polly (Dixon) Mitchell

"Polly" Ada Pauline (Dixon) Mitchell was born November 5, 1942 in Mobeetie, Texas to Wilburn Perry and Opal Imogene (Barton) Dixon and passed away June 4, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of seventy-seven years. Polly was one of seven children and lived in many locations growing up, but she considered Salem, Missouri and Jayton, Texas to be her home. She worked as a waitress for years and managed the Tower Inn and Walnut Bowl. Polly also worked as a cosmetologist, a job she enjoyed very much. She later worked as a caregiver and put her heart into caring for others. For many years Polly cared for Gail, Brenda and Jack Curley. They meant the world to her and she loved and cared for them like they were her very own. Polly attended Walking Faith Ministries and enjoyed the fellowship there. She loved antiques and collecting "old stuff". She enjoyed people and was a friend to many. Polly had a special place in her heart for her dog: Dumas Walker. Most important to Polly was her family. She loved her three kids at a level incomparable to any other and would go to the end of the earth for them. She cherished the time spent with them and treasured the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Polly is survived by her loving children: Perry Dixon of Salem, MO, Debbie Shepherd and husband Mike of Salem, MO, and Robyn McCarrell and husband Robert of Midlothian, TX; siblings: Phyllis Melton of Rolla, MO, Pam Crimson and husband Lynn of Branson, MO, Will Dixon of Branson, MO, and Priscilla Halbrook and husband Donnie of Branson, MO; grandchildren: Rachel Schafer and husband A.J., Kelsey Dixon and fiancé Ty Kelley, Caleb Shepherd and wife Brittany, Zachary Shepherd and wife Shala, Cody, George, Devin, and Samuel McCarrell; great-grandchildren: Titan, Collin, Tanner, Isaiah, Jace, Grady, Greyson, and Ellyette; extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Wilburn and Opal Dixon; sisters: Pat Hanson and George; Peggy Rutherford and Dean; and special friends: Gayle, Brenda, and Jack Curley. Polly will be remembered as a fun, adventurous, and loving spirit that will be remembered by everyone that knew her, she will be deeply missed. Funeral Services for Ada “Polly” Pauline (Dixon) Mitchell were held Wednesday, June 10, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Lyndell Decker officiating. The Eulogy was shared by Robyn and memories were shared by Debbie, Kelsey, and Rachel, as well as additional family and friends. Song selections played were “I’ll Fly Away”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”. Serving as Pallbearers were Perry Dixon, Mike Shepherd, Robert McCarrell, Donnie Halbrook, Caleb Shepherd, and Zachary Shepherd. Honorary Pallbearers were Samuel McCarrell, Mike Woolf, AJ Schafer, and Ty Kelley. Burial was in the Boss Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
