"Pottsie" William Joseph Potzmann

“Pottsie” William Joseph Potzmann was born July 24, 1958, in Salem, Missouri to Gerard William and Reeda Mae (Bell) Potzmann. Pottsie grew up in Salem and graduated with the class of 1976 from Salem High School. After high school, Pottsie enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and served his country faithfully until his retirement after twenty-one years. For his honorable service, he earned many decorations, medals, ribbons, and awards. Pottsie met the love of his life, Linda (Chapman) Gamblin in 1982 and shared together over forty years of lasting memories. Pottsie and Linda were blessed with two children: Jay and Angelia. Pottsie would do anything for his wife and children. He was a very proud father and grandfather. Pottsie worked hard to provide for his family. He was raised up as a pig farmer, worked in the timber industry, and at the charcoal plant. Pottsie ended his working career as an equipment operator at Doe Run. He retired after many years of dedication. Pottsie was known as a jack of all trades and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved tinkering in mechanics and always talked about flying. Pottsie and Linda took many special driving trips together and always looked forward to a stop at White Castle. Most important to him was making memories with his family. He cherished his grandchildren and treasured spending time with them. Pottsie was excited to learn he was going to be a great-grandfather and was looking forward to meeting his two great-grandchildren. Pottsie entered eternal rest March 28, 2023, in Columbia, Missouri at the age of sixty-four years. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Linda Gamblin of Salem, MO; son: Jay Gamblin of Salem, MO; daughter: Angelia Curtis and husband Don of Salem, MO; sister: Catherine Schafer and husband Jeff of Columbia, MO; grandchildren: Lindsay Gamblin and Jason Wisdom, Jayden Gamblin, Carley Morgan and husband Brendon, Kailey Gamblin and Ethan Rathbun, and Raegan Neff and Allen Sage; two great-grandchildren on the way: Kolten and Melanie; niece: Lauren Schafer; daughter-in-law: Brenda Martin; extended family and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his parents: Gerard and Reeda Potzmann. Pottsie will be remembered for his huge heart for others, caring spirit, big smile, joking nature, and great personality. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and all that knew him. Funeral Services for “Pottsie” William Joseph Potzmann were held Saturday, April 1, 2023 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Song selections played were “Remember When”, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, “Scars In Heaven”, and “Grandpa”. Serving as Pallbearers were Eddie Wofford, Joey Chitwood, Billy Frizzell, Johnny Shaw, Dwayne Miller, and Carl Mendenhall. Honorary Pallbearers were Bobby Rhea, John Hall, and Herb McMillin. Military Honors was provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
