Sandra (Kay) Carmack Schafer

Sandra Kay (Carmack) Schafer was born on November 23, 1957, in Anutt, Missouri to Charles “Bud” and Mary (Capps) Carmack and passed away on February 14, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at SSM Health St. Clare-Fenton at the age of sixty-two years. Sandra grew up in the Salem area and graduated from Salem High School with the Class of 1976. She met the love of her life, Dennis Schafer, at Corinth Baptist Church and on March 28, 1975, they were united in marriage. Sandra and Dennis were inseparable and did everything together, they shared forty-five wonderful years of memories and were blessed with eight children: Josh, Joey, James, Sarah, Jake, Jonah, Christian, and Abigail. Sandra enjoyed being a homemaker and loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. She dedicated her time to her children and cherished many special moments with them. Sandra loved and supported them in everything they did, even cheering them on at their sporting events. Sandra was an amazing mother and a devoted wife to Dennis. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Sandra enjoyed spending time outside tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and never missed watching games on T.V. Sandra was a devoted member of New Harmony Church where she served faithfully as the church pianist for over thirty-nine years. She treasured the time spent with her church family, especially with the worship team. Sandra was known as a godly woman who loved the Lord and lived her life showing it. Sandra is survived by her loving husband Dennis Schafer of the home; seven children: Josh Schafer and wife Misty of Rolla, MO, Joey Schafer and wife Elissa of Salem, MO, James Schafer and wife Gina of Rolla, MO, Sarah Holland and husband Richard of Springfield, MO, Jake Schafer of Salem, MO, Jonah Schafer of St. Louis, MO, and Abigail Schafer of Salem, MO; fourteen grandchildren: Aly, Jay, Cash, Judah, Bennett, Liam, Reed, Nolan, Gracie, Sadie, Lexie, Lucie, Skye, and Lyric; two brothers: Charlie Carmack and wife Betty of Nashville, TN and Ed Carmack and wife Carol of Salem, MO; one sister: Patsy Cooper and husband Johnny of Salem, MO; mother-in-law: Jessie Schafer of Salem, MO; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Charles “Bud” Carmack and Mary (Capps) Carmack; father-in-law: Herschel Schafer Jr.; infant son: Christian Philip Schafer; and special daughter: Kayla Meade. Sandra was a sweet lady with a big heart who lived a beautiful life inside and out. She was truly a light to all those around her and impacted the lives of many. Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed. Funeral Service for Sandra Kay (Carmack) Schafer was held Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at New Harmony Church with Pastor David Gidcumb, Pastor Noah Schlag, and Josh Schafer officiating. Special music was provided by the New Harmony Worship Team and additional song selection played was "Serenaded By Angels". Serving as Pallbearers were Josh Schafer, Joey Schafer, James Schafer, Jake Schafer, Jonah Schafer, and Wes Cooper. Honorary Pallbearers were Justin Wood and Loving Grandsons: Jay, Bennett, Liam, Reed, and Nolan. Burial was in the New Harmony Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. ------- In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Sandra Schafer to the Riverways Pregnancy Resource Center and left at Wilson Mortuary.
