Wilbert Otto Mooney

Wilbert Otto Mooney was born January 22, 1945 to Raymond and Viola (Duncan) Mooney in Cedar Grove, Missouri and departed this life February 21, 2021 at SSM Health DePaul Hospital in Bridgton, Missouri at the age of seventy-six years. Otto graduated from Salem High School and was a quarterback on the football team. He was united in marriage to Mae Johns and together shared twenty-two years of memories. Otto and Mae were blessed with one daughter, Tracy, whom they were very proud of. Otto was a hard worker, honest, and well respected by everyone he met. He enjoyed working with his hands as a laborer with HBD Construction Company in St. Louis, taking great pride in his work until he retired in 2000. Otto was a devoted sports fan, rooting for his favorite team the St. Louis Cardinals whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid bowler in the 80s, and liked to go to Turkey Shoots. Otto was one of a kind, very outgoing, and never met a stranger. He was a member of the Missouri Athletic Club and valued spending time in the community, often assisting with Barbecues. Otto enjoyed music and was the drummer in a county western band for a time. He loved to cook and barbecue for his family and friends. His friends were very important to him, Otto was a loyal friend and always willing to help anytime he was asked. Otto cherished the time spent with his daughter and treasured his granddaughters. Otto leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving daughter: Tracy Mooney of O’ Fallon, MO; granddaughters: Lindsay and Riley Mooney; ex-wife: Mae (Johns) McNeil; siblings: Betty Cook, James Mooney and wife Shirley, Kay Gallagher, Carol Fohey and husband Gerald, Dee Mooney, Otis Botkin and wife Lori; well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Preceding him in death, father: Raymond Mooney, mother: Viola (Duncan) Botkin; siblings: Vera Steelman, Dariel Botkin, Ann Nash, Peg Morris, Esco Mooney, Donald Ray Mooney. Otto was deeply loved by his family and is leaving behind a lot of beautiful memories and a great legacy. Funeral Services for Wilbert Otto Mooney were held Thursday, February 25, 2021 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be” and “The Cowboy Rides Away”. Serving as Pallbearers were his loving family and dear friends. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery.
