Alma Retta (Dennie) Farrar

Alma Retta (Dennie) Farrar was born March 4, 1939, in Bixby, Missouri. She was the daughter of Clarence and Maggie (Clements) Dennie. Alma passed away August 27, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years surrounded by loved ones. On December 18, 1954, Alma was united in marriage to Carroll Eugene “Gene” Farrar. They were blessed with five children: Donna, Carole, Eddie, Kevin, and Gina. Alma and Gene shared nearly forty-two years of marriage together before his passing October 20, 1996. Alma was a hard worker, at times working all day and into the night. She worked as a seamstress with Barard Lingerie for twenty-nine years. Alma also worked in the laundry department with Seville Care Center for fifteen years. She was a caregiver at heart, always putting others first. She truly loved helping senior citizens with their homes and taking them to appointments. In her spare time, Alma babysat her grandchildren as well as others, during that time, they often enjoyed watching Disney movies together. She was an avid reader of Harlequin romance novels, enjoyed frequent trips to Wal-Mart, and loved tending to her flowers. Her family and friends were most important to her. She was a loving grandmother and cherished making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alma was a woman of strong faith and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Salem, where she attended regularly until her health declined. She then started watching Sunday Morning Worship Services online. Her faith and family were the source of strength and the foundation of her life, evident in her actions and care for others. Alma is survived by her loving children: Carole Wilson and husband Danny of Salem, MO; Eddie Farrar and wife Judy of Oklahoma, Kevin Farrar of Plato, MO; and Gina Selinger of Kansas City, MO; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Gene Farrar; daughter, Donna Richmond; infant son, Gary; parents, Clarence and Maggie (Clements) Dennie; her siblings, Jesse “Buster” Clements, Louise Wideman, and Pat Liscomb; and her beloved dog, Buddy. Alma was a smart, bright, generous, and witty woman with a great sense of humor. She will be remembered not only for her kindness and love but also for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Her spirit will continue to reside in the hearts of her family and friends, forever cherished and missed. Memorial Services for Alma Retta (Dennie) Farrar were held Saturday, September 8, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating and granddaughter Melanie Caskanett sharing the eulogy. Song selections played were “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “When I Get Where I’m Going”. Serving as Pallbearer was Eddie Farrar. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
