Barbara Jean (Koenig) Rhoads

Barbara Jean (Koenig) Rhoads was born on April 30, 1943, to Charles and Estelle (Nichols) Koenig in Fayetteville, North Carolina and departed this life on July 3, 2021 at her home in Salem, Missouri surrounded by her loving family at the age of seventy-eight years. Barbara grew up and attended school in Salem, Missouri. She was united in marriage to her sweetheart David “Dusty” Earl Rhoads on June 2, 1982, in Miami, Oklahoma and together shared thirty-nine years of memories. Barbara and Dusty were blessed to share five children: Tania, Dwayne, Tammy, JR, and Shelly. Barbara was the administrator at the Salem Senior Center for many years. She was a people person and enjoyed helping others in the community. Barbara was a person greatly blessed with talented hands enabling her to crochet beautiful afghans. She was an avid Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson fan. Most important to her was her family, her kids were everything to her and she loved the time spent with them. Barbara was a loving and caring grandmother and great-grandmother, she treasured the memories they made together. Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving children: Tania Connell and husband John of Salem, MO, Dwayne Martin and fiancé Lisa Dunman of Salem, MO, Tammy Denney and fiancé John Raulston of Salem, MO, and JR Sellers of Salem, MO; two sisters: Charline Short of Salem, MO and Kay Crocker of Texas; one brother: Jeff Crocker of Texas; daughter-in-law: April Sellers; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. Preceding her in death, her loving husband: David “Dusty” Rhoads; daughter: Shelly Shaw; parents: Charles and Estelle Koenig; grandparents: George and May Koenig; and grandchildren: Sarah Cotner, Breana Sellers, and infant Hoyt. Barbara was a very independent woman who was devoted to her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services for Barbara Jean (Koenig) Rhoads were held Friday, July 9, 2021 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”, “Far Side Bank Of Jordan”, and “My Wish” Serving as Pallbearers were Bradley Delashmit, Cody Martin, Jason Tuttle, John Raulston, Mathew Denney, and Zack Denney. Honorary Pallbearers were Dusty Sellers, Connor Tuttle, Sammy Pogue, Korey Denney, and Isaiah Connell. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
