Bertha May (Hicks) Patterson

Bertha May (Hicks) Patterson was born March 13, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jack and Francis (Strickland) Hicks. She grew up in Eureka, Missouri and graduated from Eureka High School. After high school, Bertha furthered her education with some cooking classes which led to her working career as a cook. She started working for Clayton On The Green and retired from Delmar Gardens On The Green. Bertha enjoyed cooking meals for the residents, it was a job that brought her great joy. On February 23, 1980, in Brentwood, Missouri, Bertha was united in marriage to Mitchell Ray Patterson. They were blessed with thirty-nine years of lasting memories together before his passing in 2019. Bertha and Mitchell shared four children: Travis, Timmothy, Joseph, and Christine. In her spare time, Bertha loved to read books. She liked to recollect and reminisce with her family while looking at old family photos. Bertha enjoyed sitting around and talking with others while enjoying a cup of coffee. Her favorite pastimes were time spent with family and friends. Bertha treasured her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Walking Faith Ministries and a woman of strong faith. Bertha passed away April 13, 2024, in DeSoto, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her sons: Travis Thompson and wife Melanie of Union, MO, Timmothy Thompson of St. Louis, MO, and Joseph Thompson and wife Jerry of Gray Summit, MO; daughter: Christine Patterson of Springfield, MO; brothers: Richard, Frank, and John Purler; seventeen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Mitchell Patterson; father: Jack Hicks; mother: Francis Purler and husband Frank; brother: Gary Hicks, and sister: Juanita Hicks. Bertha was truly a great lady. She was always thinking of others and lending a helping hand. She will be sadly and deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her. Funeral Services for Bertha May (Hicks) Patterson were held Friday, Apil 19, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Lyndell Decker officiating. Special Music was provided by Marty Rodgers. Serving as Pallbearers were Brock Thompson, Austin Hall, Logan Hall, Jai Thompson, Colton Thompson, and Kenny Thompson.
