Charles "Chuck" Edward Hayes

Charles “Chuck” Edward Hayes was born January 9, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Cleo and Florence (Hubbartt) Hayes. He grew up in Maryland Heights and moved to Salem in his teen years. Chuck graduated from Salem High School and furthered his education. He enlisted into the Army National Guard and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge. Chuck was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Barbara Gail Rayfield, July 19, 1993 in Potosi, Missouri and together blessed with twenty-eight years of laughter and memories. Chuck and Barbara shared three children: Misti, Trish, and Puck. Chuck started his working career at a young age with his dad in the salvage yard. His passion for cars lead him to his life long career as a car dealer owning and operating Norms Auto Sales. Chuck enjoyed attending car auctions and wheeling and dealing. Chuck loved spending time outdoors horseback riding, especially at the Cross Country Trail Rides in Eminence. Chuck also participated in Bronco Horse Riding competitions and was a member of the Quarter Horse Association. Chuck was a man of faith and member of New Home Baptist Church. He was fiercely devoted to his family and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved the most. Chuck especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and treasured making memories with them. Chuck departed this life January 18, 2022 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of sixty-four years. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, loving wife Barbara Hayes of Salem, MO; children: Misti Pennington and husband Kenny of Columbia, MO, Trish Hayes of Salem, MO, and Puck Hayes of Salem, MO; father: Cleo Hayes of Salem, MO; siblings: Marie Ruebel and Bill Haley of St. Louis, MO, John Hayes and wife Ronda of Salem, MO, and Sandy Flack and husband Dean of Maryland Heights, MO; brothers-in-law: Sam Rayfield and wife Anne of Rolla, MO and Brad Rayfield and wife Jan of Arizona; twelve grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, mother: Florence “Flossy” Hayes; step-mother: Wilma Hayes; father and mother-in-law: Seaman and Betty Rayfield; and sister: Julia Shelton. Chuck will be remembered for his great sense of humor, integrity, humility, and loyal heart. He was also known for great conversations and storytelling. To know him was to love him. Funeral Services for Charles “Chuck” Edward Hayes were held Friday, January 21, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Song Selections played were “Old Rugged Cross” and “Go Rest High on that Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were Brad Black, Bobby Nash, Lane Hayes, Greg Diehl, Kenny Pennington, and Wyatt Hayes. Burial was in the Bethany Chapel Cemetery, Eminence, Missouri. Military Honors was provided by the Missouri Honors Team and American Legion Post 23. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Chuck Hayes and left at Wilson Mortuary.
