David Earl "Dusty" Rhoads

U.S. Army Veteran David Earl "Dusty" Rhoads was born January 22, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas to Beno and Jewel (Buckelew) Rhoads and passed away November 19, 2019, in Salem, Missouri at the age of seventy-two years. David grew up in Weatherford, Texas and on November 9, 1964, he entered the United States Army. David proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on November 9, 1967. He served during the Vietnam War and earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge. David was proud to be a soldier and all he accomplished with the Army. David moved to Salem, Missouri in 1979 where he met his sweetheart, Barbara. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1982, in Miami, Oklahoma and were blessed to share five children: Tania, Dwayne, Tammy, JR, and Shelley. David enjoyed being a truck driver and loved the opportunity to see the country. He was a Shriner, Mason and a member of the American Legion. David was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them and supporting them in their school activities. David was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy Fan and enjoyed watching the games. David is survived by his loving wife Barbara Rhoads of the home; four children: Tania Connell and husband John of Salem, MO, Dwayne Martin and fiancé Lisa Dunman of Salem, MO, Tammy Denney and fiancé John Raulston of Salem, MO, and JR Sellers and wife April of Salem, MO; one brother: Ben Rhoads and wife Sue of Oklahoma; one sister: Merle Worden of Florida; two sister-in-laws: Charlene Short of Salem, MO and Kay Crocker of Texas; one brother-in-law: Jeff Crocker of Texas; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Beno and Jewel Rhoads; sisters: Violet Britten, Brenda Weist, and Helen Reuddick; daughter: Shelley Shaw; grandchildren: Sarah Cotner, Breana Sellers, and infant Hoyt. David had a heart of gold in which he showed as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Funeral Service for David Earl Rhoads was held Friday, November 22, 2019 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were, "Let's Say Goodbye Like We Said Hello" and "Far Side Bank of Jordan". Serving as Pallbearers were: Dwayne Martin, J.R. Sellers, Jason Tuttle, Brad Delashmit, John Raulston, Brad Gibbs, Tammy Denney, and Tania Connell. Burial with Military Honors was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary.
