Delphia June (Parker) Callahan

Delphia June (Parker) Callahan Mathes was born June 16, 1945, in Boss, Missouri, to Emmit and Lily (Radford) Parker. One of seven children, she was raised in Boss, Missouri and graduated from Bunker High School. On August 3, 1963, Delphia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Carl Wayne Callahan, in Salem, Missouri. To this union they were blessed with three sons: Kevin, Carl Keith, and Kelly. Delphia and Carl raised their family in Bunker, Missouri. Delphia was a dedicated homemaker who put family above all else. She proudly supported her husband with his career in the United States Navy. Delphia and Carl shared together forty-six years of marriage and memories before his passing November 6, 2009. Delphia later married her sweetheart, Vernon Mathes, on January 3, 2015, in Holts Summit, Missouri. To this union, she gained one son: Shawn. Delphia and Vernon were blessed to share the past, nearly nine years, making lasting memories together. Her family was her greatest treasure. She was a proud grandmother and always looked forward to making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and brought her great happiness. Delphia was an excellent cook and known for her delicious homemade rolls and famous chicken and dumplings. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and joy, filled with love and laughter. She loved to cook for her family as well as fellowship meals at church. Delphia loved to sing and was gifted a beautiful voice which she used to glorify God. Her life was a beautiful example of kindness, compassion, and love for others. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Locust Grove United Baptist Church. Delphia entered into eternal rest on December 26, 2023, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband: Vernon Mathes of Salem, MO; sons: Kevin Callahan and wife Lynette of Jackson, MO, Carl “Keith” Callahan and wife Rebecca of Troy, MO, and Kelly Callahan and wife Alanna of Desloge, MO; stepson: Shawn Mathes of Sedalia, MO; siblings: Lynn Bailey, Russell Parker and wife Leasa, Norma Koonce and husband Don, and Bob Parker; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, husband of forty-six years: Carl Callahan; parents: Emmit and Lily Parker; and brothers: Carl Parker and Donald Radford. Delphia leaves behind a lasting legacy that will forever be treasured by those who loved her most. She will be deeply missed. Funeral Services for Delphia June (Parker) Callahan Mathes were held Friday, December 29, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Keith Barton officiating. Rick Kuntz read the obituary and Kevin Callahan shared the eulogy. Special Music was provided by Steve and Pat Connors and Rick Kuntz. Additional song selections were played. Serving as Pallbearers were Nathan Callahan, Zachary Callahan, Steffan McKinney, Jacob Callahan, Logan Callahan, and Hunter Jessup. Honorary Pallbearer was Brandon Callahan. Burial was in the Boss Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Delphia Callahan to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and left at Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
