Donald Lee Stokes

Donald Lee Stokes was born September 3, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Dorsey Lee and Luetta (Whitener) Stokes. He entered into eternal rest November 23, 2024, in Eureka, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years. In 1955, Don graduated from St. Clair High School. He then enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and served his country faithfully and honorable for four years. On June 20, 1960, Don was united in marriage to Sandra Faye Williams and to this union blessed with one son, Clayton. Don worked as an Information Technology Administrator for many years. After retirement, he started working at the Montauk Lodge. He became a fly-fishing guide and shared his passion for the sport with others. Don was a talented artist and has some of his work displayed around the Dent County Community. He especially enjoyed carving fish out of wood. Don had a servant’s heart and volunteered with the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center for many years. Don cherished the things in life that were most important. He was a loving husband to Sandy for sixty-five years, a supportive father and proud grandfather who knew how to spoil his grandchildren well. His faith in the Lord was evident in everything he did. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Don is survived by his son: Clayton Stokes and wife Kristy; grandchildren: Brooke and Keegan; sister: Judy Richardson; brother: Leonard Butts and wife Robin; sister-in-law: Judy Butts; extended family and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his wife: Sandy Stokes; parents: Dorsey and Luetta Stokes; brother: Leo Butts; sister: Janet Stokes; brother-in-law: George Richardson; and sister-in-law: Betty Ann Butts. Don leaves a legacy of love and care for others. He truly enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone. His friendly nature will be forever treasured by all who knew and loved him. Celebration of Life for Donald Lee Stokes was held Saturday, December 14, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix and Jeremiah Privett officiating. Song selections played were “Beat You There” and “Monsters”. Military Honors was provided the American Legion Post 99 and the United States Marine Corp.
