Doranda Ruth (Williams) Adkins

Doranda Ruth (Williams) Adkins was born May 25, 1938, in Salem, Missouri. She was one of four children born to Elvia Hurshel and Maggie Loraine (Walton) Williams. On October 29, 1955, she was united in marriage to Charles Firman Adkins, and to this union blessed with three children: Pamela, Keith, and Regina. Ruth and Charles moved to the St. Louis area for work and raised their family there. They shared nearly twenty-five years of memories together before his passing July 27, 1980. Shortly after her husband’s passing Ruth relocated back to Salem to be closer to her family. She started working as a cashier with Town and Country Supermarket and Country Mart until her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and visiting the slot machines. Most importantly Ruth adored her family and making memories with them. She cherished her grandchildren, treasured her great-grandchildren, and adored her two great-great-granddaughters. She was known as grandma to their friends at school. Ruth loved to cook and was never afraid to try something new. She was the glue that held her family together. Ruth had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. She was a virtuous woman who had the patience of an angel. Ruth was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where her strong faith and love for her community were evident. Ruth enjoyed socializing with others and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Ruth entered eternal rest September 15, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years. She is survived by her loving children: Keith Adkins of Salem, MO and Gina White and husband Dennis of Salem, MO; sister: Jeanette Russell of Salem, MO; sister-in-law: Carolyn Williams; grandchildren: Allison White and Nick, Nathan White, Jessica Easter and Joe, Kristen Catlett and Roger, Cory White and Cheyenne, Charles King and James, and Samantha Smith and Drew; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Mackenzie, Brentlee, Adelyn, Lynlee, Harper, Sophia, Chase, Joey, Clayton, Heather, Haydyn, and Hannah; great-great-granddaughters: Izzy and Amara; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Charles Adkins; daughter: Pamela Catlett; granddaughter: Angie White; parents: Elvia and Maggie Williams; brother: William Lavern Williams; and sister: Shirley Nash. Ruth will be remembered for her contagious smile and unconditional love. She will be forever missed but never forgotten. Funeral Services for Doranda Ruth (Williams) Adkins were held Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Larry Nash officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace”, “Wind Beneath My Wings”, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were Drew Smith, Joe Easter, Charles King, Nathan White, Gary Nash, David Gray Jr., and Nick Dunn. Honorary Pallbearers were Scott Hunter, Travis Russell, Brentlee Easter, and Aiden Catlett. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Ruth Adkins to Autism Speaks and left with Wilson Mortuary.
