Dormalee (Stuart) Schafer

Dormalee (Stuart) Schafer was born December 9, 1934, in Marcoot, Missouri. She was one of two children born to Clyde and Delma (Wisdom) Stuart. Dormalee grew up in Greeley, Missouri, and graduated in 1953 from Bunker High School. On January 26, 1954, Dormalee was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arthur Schafer Jr., and to this union blessed with one daughter, Myrna. Dormalee and Arthur shared forty-seven years of memories together before his passing on September 19, 2001. Dormalee found her passion as a librarian for many years at the Current River Regional Library. She truly loved her job and always looked forward to the summer program where she read books to the community kids. Dormalee shared her passion with her grandchildren, she loved to tell them stories, many of which she made up as she went. Dormalee enjoyed gardening and porch sitting. She journaled daily, liked to read, and kept up with the Salem News. Finding a good deal at Wal-Mart is something she strived for weekly. Dormalee enjoyed a competitive game of Aggravation and always cheated at Monopoly. She showed no mercy while playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dormalee was a lady of strong faith. She was a longtime member of Greeley United Baptist Church and faithfully attended until she moved out of the area in 2019. While there, she served as a past church treasurer and loved being part of the women’s fellowship. Dormalee entered eternal rest on November 18, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving daughter: Myrna Watson and husband Darrell Sr. of Fair Grove, MO; granddaughter: Nicole Essick and husband Carl of Springfield, MO; grandson: Darrell Watson Jr. and wife Jennifer of Clever, MO; great-grandchildren: Chayton Essick, Logan Watson, and Lane Watson; one great-great-grandbaby on the way; extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death, loving husband: Arthur Schafer Jr.; parents: Clyde and Delma Stuart; and brother: Clayton Stuart. Dormalee was one of a kind, a force of nature, and a true spitfire. Her strong will, unwavering determination, and unique attributes will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her most. Graveside Services for Dormalee (Stuart) Schafer were held Friday, November 24, 2023, in the Green Forest Cemetery with Rev. Tom Wisdom officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Chayton Essick, Logan Watson, Lane Watson, Carl Essick, Darrell Watson Jr., and Neil Stuart. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
