Evelyn Marie (Pursley) Shook

Evelyn Marie (Pursley) Shook was born on April 14, 1948 in Bolivar, Missouri to Lawrence and Eldora (Hopkins) Pursley and passed away June 21, 2019 at the age of seventy-one years. Evelyn grew up in Bolivar, Missouri where she also graduated high school. On August 23, 1968, Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Shook and to this union two daughters were born: Vanessa and Andrea. They celebrated 50 beautiful years of marriage together. During her working years, Evelyn worked as a waitress at Woods Restaurant in Bolivar as well as the Garment Factory. She also worked at a pharmacy in Rolla, Phelps County Bank and at a bank in St. James. Her fondest place to work was at the MFA in Salem, where she enjoyed visiting with the local farmers. Evelyn loved getting to know the people she met through her work. She loved going to ballgames watching her grandkids play basketball and baseball. Evelyn also enjoyed ministering at the nursing homes singing to the residents. She enjoyed worshiping at First Baptist Church of Salem and attending Sunday School. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Eldora Pursley; and sister, Rosemary Pursley in 1954. Survivors include her loving husband, Ralph Shook of Salem, MO; two daughters, Vanessa Feeler and husband, Chris of Belle, MO, and Andrea Martin and husband, Sonny of Steelville, MO; two brothers, Larry Pursley of Stockton, MO, and Raymond Pursley and wife, Carol of Bolivar, MO; one sister, Dixie Smith and husband, Ralph of Humansville, MO; five grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. Evelyn will be sadly and deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved her. Funeral Service for Evelyn Marie (Pursley) Shook was held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Michael York officiating. Special music was provided by David Hancock singing "Fill My Way With Love", additional song selections played were: "Beulah Land" and "The Promise". Serving as Pallbearers were, Chris Feeler, Lane Feeler, Levi Martin, Larry Shook, Christian Burkett, Raymond Pursley and David Hancock. Honorary Pallbearers were, Sonny Martin and Larry Pursley. Burial was in the Sligo Cemetery in Salem, Missouri. All arrangements were under the care and direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
