Freda Fay Johnston

Freda Fay Johnston was born September 24, 1939, in Redford, Missouri, to Robert and Edna (Littrell) Johnston and departed this life January 10, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years. Freda’s greatest accomplishment was being a dedicated mother and homemaker for her four children: David, Marilyn, Cathy, and Jesse. She was known for her warm and caring personality. Freda was a caretaker by nature and took pride in caring for her family and others that were in need. During her working career, Freda spent many years at American Loose-Leaf Company as a book binder. Freda enjoyed cooking and baking, some of her favorite things to make for the family were peach cobbler, banana pudding and biscuits and gravy. She had a passion for sewing and quilting and often gave these handcrafted items as gifts to family and friends. Most importantly, Freda loved her family and treasured making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a strong Christian faith and enjoyed attending Dry Fork Baptist Church. Freda is survived by her loving son: David Johnston and wife Judy of Bourbon, MO; brother: Lloyd Johnston of Neosho, MO; grandchildren: David Johnston Jr. and wife Cassie, John Johnston and wife Susan, Chris Johnston, Nikki Guffey, Ashley Guffey, Sarah Plank and husband Zach, Todd Bounds and wife Tara, Jason Bounds, Scott Johnston and wife Melissa, Eric Johnston, and Danny Johnston and wife Jessica; many great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her loving children: Marilyn Guffey, Cathy Plounder, and Jesse Johnston; grandson: Dylan Johnston; parents: Robert and Edna Johnston; and siblings: Earl Johnston, Delcie Lepping, Floyd Johnston, and Alva Johnston. Freda will be remembered for her sweet, gentle, and considerate nature. She will be forever missed by those who loved her most. Funeral Services for Freda Fay Johnston were held Friday, January 17, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Rev. Josh Akers officiating. The eulogy was shared by Sarah Plank. Song selections played were “Old Rugged Cross”, “Lily of the Valley”, and “Show Me Around”. Serving as Pallbearers were David Johnston, John Johnston, Chris Johnston, Scott Johnston, Todd Bounds, and Danny Johnston. Burial was in the New Harmony Cemetery.
