Gary Lee Hanning

Gary Lee Hanning was born April 6, 1940 in Ironton, Missouri to Omer Lee “Buck” Hanning and Dollie Dean Matlock Hanning. He passed away December 31, 2021 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of eighty-one years. Gary graduated from Salem High School and married his high school sweetheart, Helen (Young) Hanning. They were married for sixty-two years and were blessed with three children – Rhonda, Randal, and Stephanie. Gary loved to work. He started his career at Coffman’s in Salem, MO, then became a salesman for Craig Distributing Co. His next job took him to Cominco American Mines in Bixby, MO starting in the warehouse and working his way up to become Purchasing Agent for the mine which included working in Alaska at Cominco’s Red Dog mine. Gary retired from Cominco in 1998. Gary was a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for several years. He loved the Lord and loved singing about his faith. Gary was always willing to be a help to the church in any way that was needed – from leading the singing to helping with building projects. Gary loved to fish and entered many bass tournaments. He loved to tryout the newest gadgets to help him catch the “big one”. Gary is survived by his loving wife Helen Hanning of Salem, MO; three children: Rhonda Edmison and husband Jeff of Carlisle, PA, Randal Hanning and wife Brenda of Salem, MO, and Stephanie Hanning of Springfield, MO; two half-brothers: Kevin and Mark Hanning, and one half-sister: Teresa Hanning; four grandchildren: Joshua, Bridgette, Stetson, and Savannah; four great-grandchildren: Caolon, Declan, Jonathan, and Zoey; and many extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Omer Lee and Dollie Hanning, and an infant brother: Ronnie Hanning. Gary lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial Services for Gary Lee Hanning were held Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Rocky Lindley officiating. Linda Sullivan shared memories and song selections played were “I Can Only Imagine”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
