George Eugene Clark

George Eugene Clark was born April 4, 1942, in St. James, Missouri to Ralph Eugene and Mary Ann (Cox) Clark and passed away August 29, 2020, at his home in Salem, Missouri surrounded by his loving family at the age of seventy-eight years. George grew up and attended school in St. James, Missouri. He entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge. For his faithful and honorable service, George earned many decorations, medals, ribbons, and awards to include: National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (rifle), Vietnam Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. George was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Wanda Stringer on May 14, 1994 in St. James, Missouri and together shared twenty-six years of marriage and were blessed to share four children: Sheila, Kelly, Hope, and Michelle. George took great pride in caring for his family, during his working years he was a Certified Nursing Assistant and professional painter in the St. Louis area. Some of his work included, painting the Potosi Prison and several Federal Buildings. George enjoyed spending time outdoors; he liked to deer and turkey hunt, fish at the riverbank, and yard work. George always had a great lawn and took great pride in his yard. When he wasn’t outdoors, he could be found watching westerns. Most important to George was his family, he deeply cherished his time spent with them, especially the time playing and teasing his grandchildren. George survived by his loving wife Wanda Clark of the home; children: Sheila Tucker and husband Lance of Warrensburg, MO, Kelly Light of St. James, MO, Hope Lucas and husband Kasey of Salem, MO, and Michelle Sapaugh and husband Darrell of Salem, MO; one sister: Helen Welch and husband Jim of St. James, MO; one brother: Marvin Clark of St. James, MO; seven grandchildren: Gary Tucker and wife Kasey, Amber Miller, Kara Doherty and husband Dustin, Madison and Chloe Lucas, Amber Sanders and husband Patrick, and Matthew Sapaugh and wife Amanda; fifteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death, his parents: Ralph and Mary Ann Clark; son-in-law: Rod Light; great-grandson: Brody Tucker; nephew: David Clark; and sister-in-law: Linda Clark. George will be remembered as a devoted husband, caring father, and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services for George Eugene Clark were held Wednesday, September 2, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Terry Davis officiating. Grandson Matthew Sapaugh shared memories and song selections played were “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross”, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were Patrick Sanders, Matthew Sapaugh, Tom Stringer, Butch Stringer, Tim Marrill, and Doug Clark. Burial with Military Honors was in the New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
