Geraldine Marie (Bays) Sherrill

Geraldine Marie (Bays) Sherrill was born March 1, 1941, to Burley and Lottie (Laramore) Bays. She was born and raised in Shoal Creek, Missouri. Geraldine graduated with the class of 1959 from Steelville High School. On September 2, 1961, Geraldine was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vernon “Larry” Lawrence Sherrill. They shared together sixty-two years of marriage and lasting memories. Geraldine and Larry were blessed with two children: Lawrence and Paula. Geraldine worked as the Viburnum School secretary from 1960 until she retired in 2000. Throughout her time there she was a second mother to many students. She truly enjoyed what she did and loved and cared for each of them. Although she enjoyed her working career, raising her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren is what she treasured most. Geraldine was blessed with talented hands and liked to crochet, cross stitch, and needle point. She loved to bake and knew how to make a delicious angel food cake. She enjoyed gardening and sharing her bounty with others. Geraldine loved roses and treasured the rose bushes that Larry tended too. Geraldine was a longtime member of Macedonia United Baptist Church, Boss, Missouri. She enjoyed serving the Lord and loved playing the piano. Geraldine traveled country wide with Larry and sang for many years in several gospel quartets. Music was her passion and she truly loved sharing her passion with others. Geraldine entered eternal rest February 20, 2024, in Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-two years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband: Larry Sherrill of Steelville, MO; son: Lawrence Sherrill and Tracy Gant of Salem, MO; daughter: Paula Bell and husband David of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Laura Stemick and husband Chad, Lena Pettus and husband Michael, Trystan Bell, and Kai Bell; great-grandchildren: Makayla, Izzy, Nick, Greyson, and Connor; extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Burley and Lottie Bays; infant brother: James Leo Bays; sister: Ima June Bryan; and nephew: Ralph Bryan. Geraldine was beautiful inside and out. She always had a smile on her face and was a pleasure to be around. Her kindness, love for Christ, and generous spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her most. Funeral Services for Geraldine Marie (Bays) Sherrill were held Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Pastor Heath Garrison officiating. Special Music was provided by Jeff Black and Deron Gibbs. Serving as Pallbearers were Chad Stemick, Michael Pettus, Zeke Stulka, and Steven Sherrill. Honorary Pallbearers were Nick Pettus, Kai Bell, Connor Pettus, and Greyson Sutterfield. Burial was in the Skaggs Cemetery.
