James "Jim" Eugene Barker

James “Jim” Eugene Barker was born March 10, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to Charles Benton and Mary Frances (Yoder) Barker. He was raised Mennonite and grew up on the family farm in Comins, Michigan. Jim attended Fairview School and later in life received his GED. Jim started working at a young age at Miller’s Feed Store in Fairview, Michigan. He was called into the ministry as a young teenager and began preparing for a life of service to the Lord. Jim was united in marriage April 4, 1997, to the love of his life Myrla Charlene Perkins. Although they were only married for twenty-five years, they were fortunate to share thirty-four years of memories together. Jim and Myrla were blessed with four children: Genie, Kenny, Billy, and Sylvia. Jim loved his family and cherished the time spent with them. He adored his grandchildren and loved watching them grow and learn new things. Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family fishing at Shawnee Mac Lake. Jim truly enjoyed reading his Bible. He devoted himself to teaching the gospel and ministering to the community. Jim never met a stranger and made friends with everyone he encountered. His joy came from helping those in need. He loved helping others and always made himself available. Jim entered into eternal rest January 4, 2023 in Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years. He is survived by his loving wife: Myrla Barker; children: Genie Norris, Kenny Perkins, Billy Jordan, and Sylvia Harms; grandchildren: Aaron and Rachel Norris and Will and Ally Hornberger; sisters: Glada Hightower and husband Larry and Ruth Clark; brothers: David Barker and wife Maud and Alvin Barker and wife Michelle; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his parents: Charles and Mary Barker; brother: John Barker; sister: Clara Hamilton and husband Wayne; and son-in-law: Ronnie Norris. Jim will be remembered for his love of God, family, and friends. His compassion and generosity did not go unnoticed. Jim will be forever missed by those who loved him most. Memorial Services for James “Jim” Eugene Barker were held Thursday, January 12, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Carl Van Vliet officiating. Song selections played were “Butterfly Kisses”, “Daddy’s Hands”, “Jealous of the Angels”, and “Scars In Heaven”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
