Jerry Dale Adkins Sr.

Jerry Dale Adkins Sr. was born March 5, 1949, in Salem, Missouri, to Dee Lester and Dorothy (Malone) Adkins. Jerry was blessed with two beautiful children, Leslie and Jerry Jr., who he loved more than anything. For over fifty years, Jerry dedicated himself to the Royal Oak Charcoal Plant, contributing his unwavering work ethic until his retirement. Beyond his professional life, Jerry possessed a remarkable talent for working on and rebuilding cars, a skill he honed with meticulous care and passion. He also found immense joy in playing the guitar, sharing his musical talent with those around him. His leisure time was often spent fishing at Shawnee Mac Lakes and creating cherished memories camping with his grandchildren at Council Bluff and Lake of the Ozarks during their annual family vacations. Jerry had a strong bond with his family, particularly his grandchildren, whom he adored. His positive outlook on life was infectious. He possessed a rare ability to find the good in everyone and never spoke ill of another. Jerry’s generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need were hallmarks of his character. Jerry was a man faith, and a member of Second Baptist Church. Jerry entered eternal rest April 24, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri at the age of seventy-six years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving son: Jerry Adkins Jr. and Candace Chafton of Salem, MO; sister: Wanda Hornbeck of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Mackenzie Adkins, Sierra Jolly and husband Anthony, Austin Vanmeter and wife Jessica, Kayla Vanmeter, and Sabrina Vanmeter; great-grandchildren: Eli, Ivy, Mya, Tyler, Noah, Jimmy, and Beau; daughters-in-love: Sara Jones and husband Michael, and Stacey Jessen and Justin Neumeier; nieces: Amanda Chafton and husband Joey, and Cassie Blankenship and husband David; as well as several great nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Preceding him in death were, his daughter: Leslie Vanmeter; parents: Dee and Dorothy Adkins; infant brothers: Harold and David Adkins; and brother-in-law: Bill Hornbeck. Jerry lived a life filled with hard work, generosity, unwavering kindness, and a deep love for his family. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Funeral Services for Jerry Dale Adkins Sr. were held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Clay Harper officiating. Song selections played were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Jerry Adkins Sr. to Wilson Mortuary to help with final expenses. Memorial Envelopes will be made available.
