Jesse Frank Johnston

Jesse Frank Johnston was born January 6, 1958, in Ellington, Missouri to James Timothy Guffey and Freda Faye Johnston. He enlisted into the United States Army September 19, 1983, and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge January 14, 1985. During his time in the military, Jesse served as a military police officer and earned several decorations, medals, badges, and awards. He was gifted as a carpenter and shared his talent in woodworking by making cabinets for many years. Jesse was blessed with four sons: Scott, Eric, Dan, and Dylan. He was a loving and caring father and treasured the time spent with them. His grandchildren brought him great joy and he cherished the memories they made together. Jesse enjoyed many hobbies and was a jack of all trade. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors. He especially liked to fish in the Black River. When he was able, he loved to ride and tinker on his motorcycle. He had a beautiful head of hair and was always making sure it looked good. Jesse departed this life April 1, 2023, in Salem, Missouri at the age of sixty-five years. Those left to mourn his passing are his loving children: Scott Johnston and wife Melissa of St. Charles, MO, Eric Johnston of Florida, Dan Johnston and wife Jessica of St. Louis, MO, and Dylan Johnston of High Ridge, MO; mother: Freeda Johnston of Salem, MO; brother: David Johnston of Bourbon, MO; many grandchildren; extended family and dear friends. Preceding him in death his father: Tim Guffey; and his sisters: Cathy Plounder and Marilyn Guffey. Jesse leaves behind many memories for his family to cherish and will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him. Memorial Services for Jesse Frank Johnston were held Sunday, April 16, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “Spirit in the Sky”, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”, “Carry On Wayward Son”, and “The Joker”. Military Honors was provided by the American Legion Post 99 and Missouri Honors Team. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
