Joann Lee (Mooney) Enke

Joann Lee (Mooney) Enke was born July 10, 1941, in Rolla, Missouri, born to Cleller and Lillie May (Shepherd) Mooney. She was of a large family with nine sisters and four brothers, one of whom was her twin. Joann grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. On October 14, 1961, Joann was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Vernon Enke, sharing the last sixty-two years of marriage and lasting memories together. Joann and Donald were blessed with two wonderful children, Linda and David, who then blessed them with two granddaughters and ten great-grandchildren. Joann had a kind loving gentle way about her. She was extremely compassionate and gave unselfishly to the needs of others. Joann worked as a caregiver with the Disabled Citizens Alliance for Independence for many years. She took great pride in caring for others and showing love. Her love and devotion didn’t go unnoticed. Joann enjoyed the simple things and could be found reading her favorite Amish authors, watching her most-liked law enforcement shows, or catching up on social media. Her quick wit and great sense of humor gave her family many occasions for laughter. Joann enjoyed large family gatherings, especially at the Lake of the Ozarks, fishing, and camping. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and cherished making memories with her great-grandchildren. Joann had a strong Christian faith throughout her life and was a dedicated member of Anutt Full Gospel Mission Church. She displayed a true servant’s heart and served in many areas throughout the years, including being a Sunday School Teacher. Joann entered eternal rest October 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years. Those left behind to treasure her memory include, by her husband: Donald Enke of Salem, MO; daughter: Linda Cochran and husband Paul of St. James, MO; son: David Enke; sisters: Marie Reed of Salem, MO, Meta Naramore and husband Oran of Salem, MO, Barbara Hogan of Salem, MO, and Shirley Jones of Arlington, TX; twin brother: James Mooney of Salem, MO; brothers and sisters-in-law: Butch Enke and wife Bonita of Salem, MO, Jerry Enke and wife Donna of Salem, MO, Bonnie Parks of Salem, MO, and Leeroy Enke of St. Louis, MO; granddaughters: Megan Cochran and Nickie Harris and husband Jon; granddaughter by heart: Keara Shaw: great-grandchildren: Chloe, Emily, August, Shelby, Dillon, Noah, Isabella, Abel, Brady, and Heston; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, parents: Cleller and Lillie May Mooney; sisters: Joyce Harrison, Mary Lou Richardson, Jewel Abrams, Blanche Sewell, and Esther Schafer; brothers: Floyd “Sam” Mooney and Lloyd Mooney; and infant brother: John Cleller Mooney. Joann was beautiful inside and out. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, devotion, compassion, and integrity. Her love for everyone touched the lives of many. She will be forever missed. Funeral Services for Joann Lee (Mooney) Enke were held Sunday, October 22, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Mike Cronk and Rev. Darrell Case officiating. Special Memories were shared by loving family and dear friends. Serving as Pallbearers were Matthew Brooks, Jason Hogan, Tyler Naramore, Terry Reed, David Hogan, Troy Enke, and Johnny Shaw. Burial was in the Enke Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Joann Enke to the Enke Cemetery Fund and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
