Joel "Joey" Glen Smith

Joel Glen Smith was born January 21, 1956, in Rolla, Missouri, to Jewell W. and Mary Louise (Woolf) Smith. His family and friends called him Joey. He grew up and has many fond memories on his family farm in Jadwin, Missouri. On July 21, 1984, Joey was united in marriage to Elizabeth Anne Mendenhall. They built a family rooted in love and devotion, creating forty years of lasting memories. Joey and Liz were blessed to share four children: Andrew, MaDonna, Jennifer, and Cody. Joey was a dedicated over the road truck driver. He started his career with his uncle Bill Shelton for many years. In his early twenties, Joey bought his own rig and enjoyed he open road until his retirement. While he was on the road, he found his love for KFC and knew where everyone on the west coast was located. When he wasn’t behind the wheel, you could find him in the woods hunting or near the water fishing. When he was younger, he enjoyed gigging. Joey fiercely loved his family and protected those he loved. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He never met a stranger and gave everyone his best. He had many strong friendships which he treasured. His family, faith, and friends were what mattered to him most. Joey passed away September 11, 2024, at his home in Jadwin, Missouri, at the age of sixty-eight years. He is survived by his loving wife: Liz Smith of Jadwin, MO; children: Andrew Mendenhall of Salem, MO, MaDonna Dale Heldenbrand and husband Matt of Highland, IL, Jennifer Mayberry and husband Jason of Jadwin, MO, Cody Smith and wife Terra of Salem, MO; siblings: Steve Smith of Salem, MO, Stanley Smith of Salem, MO, and Shielah Warren of Rolla, MO; grandchildren: Tyler, Ashton, Evan, Courtney, Kylie, Ethan, Collin, Dylan, Cohen, Ellie, and Waylon; great-grandchild: Karter; like a daughter: Kristin Thompson and husband Sonny, and their children: Dalton, Kelsey, and Blake; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his precious granddaughter: Lyla Smith; parents: Jewel and Louise Smith; stepfather: Marcus Marlin; grandmother: Myrtle Smith; father-in-law: Delbert Mendenhall; and sisters-in-law: Janet Smith and Patsy Mendenhall. Joey was truly one of a kind and always knew how to light up a room. He knew how to make you laugh with his countless stories and jokes. Joey will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him. Funeral Services for Joel “Joey” Glen Smith were held Monday, September 16, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. The eulogy was shared by his daughter, Jennifer Mayberry. Song selections played were “Remember When”, “Fishing With Dad”, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were John Warren, Laurel Warren, Matt Woolf, Bryce Hildreth, Aaron Brooks, and Brandon Smith. Honorary Pallbearers were Kenny Woolf Jr., Chance Wilhite, Danny Black, and Gary Burro. Burial was in the Jadwin Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
