Johnnie Earl Leonard Sr.

Johnnie Earl Leonard was born January 21, 1947, in Salem, Missouri to George Edward and Esther Rebecca (Williams) Leonard. His family relocated to the St. Louis area for several years before making Salem their home. On May 28, 1982, Johnnie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bonnie Ann Pyeatt. Johnnie and Bonnie were blessed with two sons, Johnnie Jr. and Kenny. They were later blessed with five grandchildren who were the apple of his eye. Johnnie was always a hard worker and for many years worked odd and end jobs with his brother-in-law, Ralph. He then started working as a custodian with the Salem R-80 School District until his retirement after eighteen years. Johnnie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed what nature provided. He loved to go deer hunting with his son and fishing by the pond banks. Johnnie liked bird watching, especially doves. Johnnie departed this life December 1, 2023, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife: Bonnie Leonard of Salem, MO; sons: Johnnie Leonard Jr. and wife Amber of Salem, MO and Kenny Leonard and wife Ashley of Salem, MO; siblings: Jean Hagan and husband Ralph of Salem, MO, Jim Leonard of St. Peters, MO, George Leonard of Salem, MO, Leon Leonard and wife Terry, Ron Leonard and wife Mary, Jerry Leonard of Salem, MO, and Joe Leonard and wife Bev of St. Peters, MO; grandchildren: Alexander, Kara, Marissa, Trinity, and Gaige; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his parents: George and Esther Leonard; brother: Jack Leonard; and sister: Donna Levin. Johnnie knew no stranger and enjoyed visiting with others. He liked to joke around and make people laugh. He will be forever missed by those who loved him most. Funeral Services for Johnnie Earl Leonard Sr. were held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. The eulogy was shared by his son Johnnie Jr. Song selections played were “Victory in Jesus”, “Wildwood Flower”, “I’ll Fly Away”, and “Wings of a Dove”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Johnnie Leonard Sr. to Wilson Mortuary to help with final expenses.
