June Lavada (Cover) Brooks

June Lavada (Cover) Brooks, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Short) Cover, was born June 10, 1932, in Boss, Missouri. She was of a large family, being one of sixteen beloved children. June had many memories growing up near Bucksnort Creek. On September 18, 1948, June was united in marriage to the love of her life, Noel Brooks, and to this union blessed with four children: Rick, Dawn, Beth, and Frank. June and Noel shared nearly thirty-eight years of memories together before his passing December 1, 1986. June worked at the International Shoe Factory, Barards Lingerie, and in the laundry department at Seville Care Center for many years before starting her career as a Nurse Aide with Salem Memorial District Hospital. She retired after twenty years of dedication and commitment to excellence. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She had a special touch with flowers and created beautiful floral arrangements. Throughout the years she had made several of her grandchildren’s bouquets for their wedding. June was also a talented writer and often wrote custom poems for family milestones. Her thoughtful words brought comfort and joy to many. June liked to go camping, often spending time at Montauk State Park and Circle B Campground. She was an avid rock collector, always looking to add to her collection. She enjoyed watching birds, cardinals were her favorite. June cared deeply for her family, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They held a special place in her heart, and she would do anything for them. Above all else, June was a faithful Christian woman who loved the Lord and made her faith a part of her everyday life. She was a member of Boss Assembly of God Church. June passed away September 23, 2025, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years. She is survived by her loving children: Rick Brooks of Raytown, MO, Dawn Paul of Salem, MO, Beth Light and husband Ron of Salem, MO, and Frank Brooks and wife Melissa of Bourbon, MO; sister: Edith Faulkner of Boss, MO; grandchildren: Heather Paul and wife Tonya, Dustin Brooks and husband Thad, April Hurd, Brittany Robbins and husband Chris, Jacob Brooks and wife Jessica, and Dakota Light and wife Briana; great-grandchildren: Dawson and wife Bethany, Logan, Rylee, and Emmett; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Noel Brooks; parents: Frank and Bertha (Short) Cover; and fourteen siblings. June was a true fighter, facing each challenge with courage and a positive attitude, and never giving up until the very end. She will be remembered as a strong-willed woman who was determined in her ways. June will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Funeral Services for June Lavada (Cover) Brooks were held Monday, September 29, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Frank Brooks and Pastor Elvie Hedrick officiating. Special Music was provided by pianist Landra Miller and soloist Jim Pryor singing “Oh, The Love Of God” and “Don’t Weep For Me When I’m Gone” and additional song selections played were “Tears Will Never Stain The Streets Of The City” and “I Hold A Clear Title To A Mansion”. Serving as Pallbearers were Chris Robbins, Cody Light, Dawson Paul, Shannon Miller, Brad Land, and Lee Allen Miller. Honorary Pallbearers were Dustin Brooks, Jacob Brooks, Ron Light, and Emmett Robbins. Burial was in the Boss Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of June Brooks to Boss Cemetery and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
