Kenneth Edward Washausen

Kenneth Edward Washausen was born November 22, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was one of two sons born to Wilbur Eugene and Bernice Charlotte Marie (Roever) Washausen. He grew up in Valmeyer, Illinois and graduated from Valmeyer High School. Kenneth was united in marriage to Joan Unterseh and to this union blessed with two sons, Ken and Glen. Kenneth devoted his life to his family being the ultimate role model for his sons by teaching them the importance of family and hard work. He loved his daughters-in-law and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On July 14, 1985, he united in marriage to Melba Corrine “Rennie” Plank and to this union gained six children, Steve, Debbie, Linda, Tammy, Randy, and Jack. Kenneth and Rennie shared thirty years of lasting memories together before her passing May 25, 2015. Kenneth was a hard worker and was very well thought of by his co-workers. In 1973, he started working as a welder with Amax Mines and retired from Doe Run as a maintenance foreman. Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed everything about nature. He loved to hunt on the family farm and at Indian Trail Park, he liked to go trout fishing at Montauk State Park, and he enjoyed tending to and harvesting from his bountiful garden. Kenneth was a faithful St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan; he never missed a game. Kenneth departed this life June 13, 2024, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of eighty. He leaves behind to treasure his memory two sons: Ken Washausen and wife Julia of Salem, MO and Glen Washausen and wife Brenda of Claremore, OK; stepchildren: Steve Walberg and wife Karen of Salem, MO, Debbie Womack and husband David of Salem, MO, Linda Campbell and husband Dennis of Salem, MO, Tammy Wells of Jefferson, City, MO, and Jack Hamm and wife Jackie of Salem, MO; sister-in-law: Vickie Washausen of Salem, MO; grandchildren: KJ Washausen and wife Chasity, Tyler Washausen, Michael Washausen, Brenton Washausen and wife Rachel, Tyler Sephus and wife Sarah, and Brittney Sephus; great-grandchildren: Jaycee Spence, Sawyer Sephus, Maverick, and Kaden Washausen; as well as a host of step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his wife: Rennie Washausen; parents: Wilbur Washausen and Bernice Washausen Nottmeier; brother: Wilbur Washausen; and stepson: Randy Hamm; and stepson-in-law: Charles Wells. Kenneth will forever be in the hearts of many. The love he had for his family was his greatest love of all. He will be deeply missed. Funeral Services for Kenneth Edward Washausen were held Thursday, June 20, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were Gary Washausen, Adam Washausen, Tyler Washausen, Tony Campbell, Brenton Washausen, and Jack Hamm. Honorary Pallbearers were Michael Washausen, KJ Washausen, Tyler Sephus, and Clint Campbell. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Kenneth Washausen to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
