Lanier Brian Cox

Lanier Brian Cox was born January 15, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Glen and Erma (Gibbs) Cox. He passed away August 5, 2025, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years. Lanier grew up in Lecoma, Missouri. He attended Salem High School and enjoyed playing on the Salem Tigers Football Team. His working career was in the construction field where he owned and operated Cox Construction for many years. Lanier liked being hands on in the field and took great pride in his work. A proud father, he worked hard to provide for his children, Shelley, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Greg. He made sure that they always felt loved and supported. Outside of work, his free time was dedicated not only to his family but the countless random projects he had going on. Lanier had adventurous spirit and a deep passion for motorcycles. He was happiest when he was out riding, usually staying close to home, and often riding to visit friends. His passion started in his early twenties while racing dirt bikes and continued until his health declined and he no longer could ride. Above all, his family was most important to him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world. He loved spending time with them and making memories together. Lanier is survived by his loving children: Shelley Richardson and husband Danny of Success, MO, Jennifer Brooks and husband Lynell of Salem, MO, Stephanie Zelenbaba and husband Milos of Boonville, MO, and Greg Cox and wife Savannah of Licking, MO; special friend: Glenda Bollinger; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Glen and Erma (Gibbs) Cox; and brothers: Marco Cox and Gregory Cox. Lanier was known as a busy body, always tinkering and finding new ways to help his family and friends. He lived life on his own terms, full throttle and without hesitation, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who loved him most. Celebration of Life for Lanier Brian Cox was held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with speakers Joann Blackwell, Lloyd Blackwell, Penny Ellsworth, and Celeste Krueger. Many special memories were shared by family and friends. Song selections played were “Dad”, “You Can Let Go Now Daddy”, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, and “Give Heaven Some Hell”.
