Leonard Michael Payne

Leonard Michael Payne was born March 10, 1960, in Steelville, Missouri, to William Richard and Marie (Malone) Payne. He grew up in Salem, Missouri, where he made many lasting memories and friendships. On March 5, 2010, Leonard married Donna Weber in Columbia, Missouri. Through their marriage, he gained two daughters: Kayla and Krista and three grandchildren: Devin, Kiley, and Luke. Leonard and Donna were blessed with sixteen years of marriage and lasting memories. His family was an important part of his life, and he treasured spending time with them. Leonard worked in the construction industry throughout his working career. Outside of work, he had a passion for sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed playing softball and especially loved the game of pool. He played in several local pool leagues and could often be found at Midway Truck Stop enjoying a game and visiting with friends. Above all, Leonard cherished his family, friends, and the time spent doing the things he loved. Leonard passed away August 15, 2026, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years. He leaves behind his wife: Donna Payne of Columbia, MO; daughter: Krista Wagstaff and husband Luke; grandchildren: Devin Wallace, Kiley Benskin, and Luke Wagstaff Jr.; siblings: John Payne and wife Beulah of Columbia, TX, Mary Martin of Salem, MO, Hazel Shaw of Salem, MO, David Payne and Marsha Drury of Salem, MO, Richard Payne of Salem, MO, Dorothy Porta and husband Chuck of Londell, MO, Carl Payne and wife Vicki of Salem, MO, Lisa Mirgaux and Jeff of Londell, MO, and Timmy Payne and wife Rhonda of Bonne Terre, MO; sister-in-love: Karen Brown; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Preceding him in death were his daughter: Kayla Wallace; parents: William and Marie (Malone) Payne; siblings: Patricia Givens, Joseph Payne, and Sharon Nickels; and nephews: Chris Payne, Irvin Gamblin, and Wayne Payne. Leonard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered a calm, collected, and patient man who was also very outgoing. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many friendships and memories he leaves behind. Funeral Services were held August 20, 2026, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Timmy Payne, Carl Payne, Richard Payne, Johnny Shaw, Dan Johnson, and Gavin Kribbs. Honorary Pallbearers were John Payne, David Payne, and Kevin Shaw. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Leonard Payne to help with final expenses. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
