Lyla Nichole Smith

Lyla Nichole Smith was born on June 13, 2020, in St. Louis, Missouri to Cody and Terra (Purcell) Smith and passed away June 24, 2020, in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by her loving family. Lyla experienced holding hands with mommy and daddy, hugs and kisses from her family, listening as her loved ones sang her songs, and being told "I love you" an uncountable number of times. Lyla almost never cried and would settle down instantly. She loved to have her head caressed by her loved ones. Lyla would peep one eye open when someone came around her. She didn't care for being swaddled but loved to stretch her arms and legs. Lyla was an answer to her parent's prayers and she is their greatest blessing. Lyla is survived by her loving parents: Cody and Terra Smith of Salem, MO; grandparents: Rick and Rachel Purcell of Salem, MO, Joel and Elizabeth Smith of Salem, MO; great-grandparents: Kathleen Owens of Salem, MO, Richard Purcell of Salem, MO, Denise Smith of Salem, MO, Delbert and Edith Mendenhall of Salem, MO; aunts and uncles: Courtney Smith and husband Jake of Salem, MO, Emma Purcell of Salem, MO, Jennifer Mayberry and husband Jason of Salem, MO, Andrew Mendenhall of Salem, MO, and MaDonna Heldenbrand of Highland, IL; and many special cousins. Preceding her in death, great-grandparents: Jewell and Louise Smith, Marcus Marlin, and Claude Tuggle. Although she was here with us only a short time, her family cherishes her memory as a gift that will live on. Lyla touched many hearts and her memory will be forever cherished. Funeral Services for Lyla Nichole Smith were held Saturday, June 27, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with speakers Pastor Bobby Mathis, Rachel Purcell, and Terra Smith. Serving as Pallbearers were Jake Smith, Jason Mayberry, Andrew Mendenhall, and Ashton Hafner. Burial with balloon release was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Lyla Smith.
