Martha "Jane" (Schafer) Cotner

Martha Jane (Schafer) Cotner was born on June 21, 1939, in Darien, Missouri, to Arthur Christopher and Cinderella (Breeding) Schafer. She affectionately went by her middle name, Jane, throughout her life. She grew up in the Montauk area and attended school in the Upper Parker Schoolhouse. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Jane spent many years employed in local factories. She worked at International Shoe Factory and Barards Lingerie before retiring from Rawlings in Licking. She took pride in providing for her family. Jane was blessed with four children: Teresa, Rick, Randy, and Chris. Her family was the center of her world. She was a proud mother, cherished grandmother, and adoring great-grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her growing family. Jane found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved yard sales and thrift stores, always searching for the next great bargain to add to her treasured collection of collectibles. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, taking pride in the beauty she created around her home. She also had a great talent in the kitchen and made a delicious pumpkin cake roll. Above all her family, faith, and friends were the most important to her. Throughout her life, Jane attended Second Baptist Church and Greeley Baptist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship. Jane passed away on July 21, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years. She leaves behind her loving children: Teresa Barton and husband Bucky of Salem, MO, Rick Welch and wife Lonetta of Salem, MO, Randy Welch of Salem, MO, Chris Welch and wife Denise of California; siblings: Glenda Dooley of Salem, MO and David Schafer and wife Anita of Wisconsin; grandchildren: Michael Radford and wife Jessica, Kenny Radford and wife Samantha, Ethan Welch, Garrett Welch and fiancé Emily, RW Welch and fiancé Ashleigh, Sophia Welch and fiancé Brady, Morgan Welch and Dalton Welch; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Mackenzie, Josie, Morgan, Kasen, and one on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Arthur and Cinderella (Breeding) Schafer; and siblings: Gladys Rasor, Junior Schafer, Ruth Shepherd, and James Schafer. Jane will be remembered for her caring heart, generous spirit, and the unconditional love she gave to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the lives of those she loved so well. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Services were held July 25, 2026, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Radford, Kenny Radford, RW Welch, Brady Cook, Garrett Welch, and Ethan Welch. Honorary Pallbearers were Brayden Radford and Kasen Welch. Burial was in the Green Forest Cemetery. The family was served by Wilson Mortuary.
