Max McDonald

Max McDonald was born on September 12, 1937, in Darien, Missouri, to Oscar William and Shirley Francis (Schafer) McDonald. He passed away on April 3, 2025, in Jadwin, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years. On November 14, 1953, he married his love of life, Phyllis Josephine Medlock, who predeceased him on July 22, 2020. Their enduring marriage of nearly sixty-seven years was a testament to their unwavering commitment and love for one another. They were blessed with three sons: Leon, Tony, and Tracey. Max was a dedicated and skilled auto mechanic throughout his working years. Beyond his professional life, Max found immense joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, pursuing deer and turkey. In retirement, he discovered a new passion for beekeeping. His happiest moments often involved trips to the beaches of Florida, particularly Englewood and Venice, where he delighted in searching for shark teeth and seashells. His family was most important to him, and he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A man of faith, Max was a longtime and valued member of the Jadwin Church of Christ. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and strong faith touched the lives of all who knew him. Max is survived by his loving sons: Leon McDonald and wife Jean Ann of Salem, MO, Tony McDonald and wife Dee of Pacific, MO, and Tracey McDonald of Valley Park, MO; sister-in-law: Pat Jacobs of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren: Ryan McDonald and wife Spring, Casey McDonald; and Katie Strothkamp and husband Matt; great-grandchildren: Paisley, Josie, and Parker; extended family and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his loving wife: Phyllis (Medlock) McDonald; and parents: Oscar and Shirley (Schafer) McDonald. Max will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to his family, and his deep love for others. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him most Funeral Services for Max McDonald were held Thursday, April 10, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Ryan McDonald officiating. Congregational Hymns sung were “Whosoever Meaneth Me”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Where The Roses Never Fade”, and “I Have Heard of A Land” and additional song selection played was “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were Mike Medlock, Eli Medlock, Cole Medlock, Casey McDonald, Katie Strothkamp, and Matt Strothkamp. Honorary Pallbearers were Michael Banks, Jimmy Brewer, and Trent Brewer.
