Opal Imogene (Lewis) Jacobs

Opal Imogene (Lewis) Jacobs was born September 11, 1929, in Gladden, Missouri. She was the daughter of Cleveland and Dolly Pearl (Sullivan) Lewis. Opal grew up and attended school in Gladden. She was raised with a large family, being one of ten children. Opal was united in marriage to the love of her life, Freddie “Jack” Jackson Jacobs, December 16, 1946 in Waynesville, Missouri. Opal and Jack cherished nearly sixty-five years together before his passing May 29, 2011. They were blessed with three children: Christine, Sherry, and Jerry “Steve”. Opal’s career in life was as a supportive military wife, homemaker, and loving mother. She took great pride in caring for her home, raising her family and always put her family first. Opal enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking and was well known for her coleslaw and cauliflower salad. She had a passion for sewing and quilting and was very talented in her work. Opal enjoyed reading romance novels and history books. She loved listening to music, especially bluegrass and gospel. Opal was full of love and joy in which she shared with her family. Making memories with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson are times she treasured most. Opal and Jack were faithful members of Oak Grove Baptist Church for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed attending Fellowship Baptist Church in High Ridge, Missouri with her family. Opal also attended Cedar Hill Baptist Church before moving to Salem. Anyone that knew her could see that her faith in God was strong and that it was the most important part of her life. Opal entered into eternal rest on October 13, 2022, in Fenton, Missouri at the age of ninety-three years. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, loving children: Christine Jacobs of Fenton, MO, Sherry Hutson and husband David of Fenton, MO, and Steve Jacobs and wife Linda of High Ridge, MO; granddaughter: Angela Kniffen and husband Keith Choate of Bonne Terre, MO; great-grandchildren: Alicia Faught and husband Josh, Steven Goebel, and Jarod Goebel; great-great-grandson: Jeremiah Julios; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, husband: Freddie “Jack” Jacobs; parents: Cleveland and Dolly Lewis; and her siblings: Denver, Delma, Granvil, Hansel “Dude”, Vernon “Dick”, Velma, Cleo, Grady, and Paul. Opal had a great sense of humor. She was beautiful inside and out with a contagious smile that could light up a room. Opal was a joy to be around and will be forever missed. Funeral Services for Opal Imogene (Lewis) Jacobs were held Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace”, “Andy Griffith Medley”, “Just Over In Heaven”, “When I Get Where I’m Going”, and “Shouting On the Hills of Heaven”. Serving as Pallbearers were Steve Jacobs, Warren Lough, Jackie Wayne Lough, Gary Fitzgerald, Robert Fitzgerald, and Steven Goebel. Honorary Pallbearers were Dave Hutson and Daniel Lakin. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Opal Jacobs to the VFW Post 6280 and left at Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
