Shirley May (Glenn) Henry

Shirley May (Glenn) Henry was born July 15, 1947, in Salem, Missouri. She was one of eleven children born to John and Hazel (Whitaker) Glenn. Shirley attended New Hope School in Salem, Missouri. In 1965, Shirley was united in marriage to David Gill. They shared twenty-three years together. In this union, Shirley was blessed with two daughters, Mary Ellen and Julie Ann. Later in life, Shirley married Charles Henry, they shared many years of fun times and precious memories together before his passing. Although her primary role was a dedicated housewife and homemaker, Shirley spent time outside the home working at a local daycare, Casey’s, and in the kitchen R-4 School. She especially loved being around the children. She took great pride in raising her daughters and caring for her home. Shirley was known as MeMe to those who knew her best. She was a loving grandma who treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her fur babies were also well loved, and fed, her cat, Jake, never missed a meal! She collected music boxes and musical snow globes. Shirley also enjoyed watching reruns of classic tv shows and spending time on her porch. She was a headstrong, devoted woman of faith, who could be a little bit ornery at times. One of Shirley’s favorite things to do was having morning coffee with her sister Sharon, she truly cherished this daily time they spent together. Shirley departed this life August 13, 2024, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her loving daughters: Mary Ellen Arts and husband Doug of Salem, MO, Julie Ann Moreland and husband Larry of Salem, Mo; brothers: Jim Glenn and wife Charlotte of Salem, MO, Donald Glenn and wife Sharon of Salem, MO; sister: Judy Daugherty of Kentucky; grandchildren: Amanda Stites and husband Jeremy, Rachel Moncrief and husband Matt, Julia Hanning, Hunter Sanderson, Gabrielle Sanderson, Noah Sanderson; great-grandchildren; Jonathan, Westin, Naomi, and Waylon; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death was her husbands: Charles Henry and David Gill; parents: John and Hazel Glenn; as well as several brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Shirley’s legacy will endure through the cherished memories she leaves behind. Her warm smile, fun humor, and strong, sometimes stubborn, personality will be forever missed. Memorial Services for Shirley May (Glenn) Henry were held Sunday, August 18, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “I’ll Fly Away” and “There Was Jesus”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
