Shirley May (Wood) Wofford

Shirley May (Wood) Wofford was born May 13, 1936, in Round Spring, Missouri. She was one of twelve, the daughter of Henry and Sarah (Thomas) Wood. Shirley grew up on the family farm in Shannon County and attended grade school at Union Hill. Shirley married the love of her life, Charles Eugene “Stoney” Wofford, on October 30, 1953, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and adventure. Together, they raised one son, Steve, whom she cherished deeply. In her younger years, Shirley worked at the International Shoe Factory, a testament to her hard work and dedication. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandma, finding immense joy in the simple pleasures. Her green thumb produced bountiful vegetable gardens, of which she canned and transformed into delicious meals. She enjoyed cooking, especially deer meat. Shirley and Charles shared a passion for the outdoors, spending countless moments camping and fishing at Montauk State Park. In later years, she treasured the time spent fishing with her grandsons in the family farm pond, creating lasting memories. Her great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life. Shirley was a lady of faith and attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church until her health started to decline. Shirley entered into eternal rest March 22, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving son: Steve Wofford and wife Sandra of Salem, MO; two sisters: Thelema Lee Anderson of Oklahoma. and Jeanie Bowen of Salem, MO; grandsons: Cody Wofford and wife Bailey and Tyler Wofford and wife Kamber all of Lenox, MO; great-grandchildren: Buxton, Collins, Camden and Cohen; extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Charles “Stoney” Wofford; parents: Henry and Sarah Wood; six brothers: Earl, Emmett, Glen, Ralph, Lloyd, and Dorman Wood; and three sisters: Opal Parker, Elsie Ellis, and Eula Smith. Shirley was a gem, known for her sweet nature and wonderful spirit. Her kindness and gentle heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will forever remember her unwavering love, her remarkable spirit, and the enduring legacy of warmth and generosity she leaves behind. Funeral Services for Shirley May (Wood) Wofford were held Saturday, March 29, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Ron Norris officiating. Special Music was provided by Janet Ellis singing “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and additional song selections played were “That’s Important To Me”, “Scars In Heaven”, “When I Get Where I’m Going”. Serving as Pallbearers were Tyler Wofford, Cody Wofford, Larry Gibbs, Jason Parker, Don Norris, and Chris Puff. Honorary Pallbearers were Lawrence Smith, Jim Wood, Mike Wood, Joe Stevens, Rick Stevens, and George Stevens. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
