Sonja Sue (Mooney) Farrar

Sonja Sue (Mooney) Farrar was born December 1, 1947, in Salem, Missouri, to Lloyd and Opal (Hodges) Mooney. She was raised in Salem and attended Salem High School. Sonja was united in marriage to Jack Maher and shared many memories before his passing. She later was united in marriage to Jack Dwain Farrar on May 19, 1973, and to this union blessed with one daughter, Cathy. Sonja and Jack shared forty-six years of lasting memories before his passing in 2019. Sonja devoted herself to being a homemaker while her daughter was young. Later in life, she worked as a school bus driver and as a home health caregiver before retiring from the Dent County Adult Activity Center. Sonja was a woman of many talents and interests. She found joy in quilting, embroidering, drawing, and making things with her hands. Those who knew her will remember her as quiet and fiercely independent. She had a strong spirit and lived life in her own way, while remaining devoted to the people that mattered most to her. Her faith was an important part of Sonja's life. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and remained faithful throughout her life. As the wife of a pastor, she embraced the role with devotion and quiet strength. Sonja was a talented piano player and played at Round Pond Baptist Church while Jack served as pastor. She also enjoyed playing the guitar. In this season of her life, she especially enjoyed attending First Baptist Church with her family. Sonja passed away August 21, 2026, in Washington, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years. She is survived by her loving daughter: Cathy Harris and husband Mitchell of Salem, MO; grandsons: Jackson and Thomas Harris; extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband of forty-six years: Jack Farrar; first husband: Jack Maher; father: Lloyd Mooney; mother: Opal (Hodges) Rogers and husband Frank; grandparents: Walter and Myrtle Collins; and granddaughter: Elizabeth Opal Harris. Sonja's quiet strength, independent spirit, musical gifts, love for her family, and steadfast faith will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her life was a testimony to a faith she carried from childhood through her final days, and her memory will remain a blessing to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 29, 2026, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Bro. David Hancock and Mitchell Harris officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Mitchell Harris, Jackson Harris, Jeff Stephenson, Drew Johnson, Robert Dingess, and Thomas Harris.
