Sonja Joan (Major) Nash

Sonja Joan (Major) Nash was born June 10, 1941, in Salem, Missouri. She was one of nine children born to Cledis and Gertrude (Mounce) Major. Sonja grew up in Salem and graduated from Bunker High School. Sonja was united in marriage to Ronnie Powell and to this union blessed with five children: James, David, Lisa, Jeri Ann, and Tammy. She later married Jerry Nash and shared together many memories before his passing. Sonja enjoyed the open road and worked as an over the road truck driver with TLC until her retirement. She loved being outdoors, especially fishing in her honey hole at Doc Lake or at the pond with Bonnie. Spending time near the woods hunting was one of her favorite things to do. Sonja loved spending time with her family. She was an inspiration to those around her and a momma to many. Sonja adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and participating in every kind of mischief was something she treasured. She was always the life of the party and was affectionately known as everyone’s favorite aunt. Sonja departed this life September 1, 2024, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years. She is survived by her sons: James Powell and wife Karen of Salem, MO and David Powell and wife Annette of Salem, MO; daughter: Tammy Kleinheider and husband Mark of New Haven, MO; brother: Jerry Major and wife Diane of Boss, MO; sister: Bonnie Horstmann and husband Ronnie of Herman, MO; grandchildren: Nick McGraw and wife Stacy, Sarah McGraw, Danielle Powell and husband Brad Ganschinietz, Michael Canaday and wife Brandi, and Josh Kleinheider; great-grandson: Chance Canaday; eighteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; niece: Pat Bushmeyer; special family friend; Melinda (Gracie) Satterfield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Jerry Nash; daughters: Lisa Volner and Jeri Ann Powell; grandson: Adam McGraw; parents: Cledis and Gertrude (Mounce) Major; and siblings: Walter Major, Hal Major, Bill Major, Bob Major, Norma Ellerbee, and Betty Major. Sonja was one of the toughest, most generous, loving people on earth. Her one of a kind personality will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
