Winferd Carl Medley

Winferd Carl Medley was born April 19, 1932, in Bixby, Missouri to James Irvin and Edna (Chandler) Medley. He grew up in Bixby and started working in the family sawmills at a young age. Winferd enlisted into the United States Army and served his country faithfully during the Korean War. During his time in the military and for his honorable service, he earned many ribbons, medals, decorations, and awards to include the purple heart and bronze star. Winferd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Erma Bays, October 2, 1954 to this union blessed with three children: Elaine, Carl Wayne, and Phyllis. Winferd and Erma shared many wonderful years before her passing. He later married his sweetheart, Eula Mae Hedrick, May 20, 1995 and to this union gained three children: Belinda, Joe, and Tina. Winferd worked hard all his life, after his time in the Army, he began his drilling company. As owner/operator of Medley Drilling, he did prospect drilling for the mining companies in the area and water well drilling for families in the community. Winferd was gifted in what he did, enjoyed helping others, and took great pride in his work. Winferd was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. He loved trout fishing, gigging, and deer hunting. Winferd liked camping, was a gifted storyteller, and made many memories with his family. Spending time with his family was most important to him, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winferd was a firm believer and of the Assembly of God faith. Winferd departed this life February 5, 2022, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of eighty-nine years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, loving wife Eula Medley of Boss, MO; children: Elaine Bailey and husband Dan of St. Robert, MO, Phyllis Powers and husband Joe of Davisville, MO; Belinda Martin and husband Ronnie of Boss, MO, Joe Dodson and wife Beth of Salem, MO, and Tina Dodson of Rolla, MO; daughter-in-law: Ethel Medley of Bixby, MO; brother: Clifton Medley and wife Betty of Bixby, MO; sister: Carolyn Quisenberry of Viburnum, MO; grandchildren: Jennifer Barton and husband Danny, Bryan Medley, Laurie Regnier, Tiffany Fazzino, Diona Asher and husband Josh, Tasha Martin, Todd Martin and wife Shayla, Amy McCall and husband Mike, Kyle Dodson and wife Brandi, Lindsey Light and husband Eric, Sydney Campbell, and Kendall Campbell; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, wife: Erma Medley; son: Carl “Bud” Medley; grandson: SFC Joshua Fazzino; parents: Irvin and Edna Medley; and siblings: Kenneth Medley, Junior Medley, Ina DeClue, and JoAnn Young. Winferd will be remembered as a happy go lucky guy who never met a stranger and enjoyed striking up conversations with people. He will be missed by those who loved him most. Funeral Services for Winferd Carl Medley were held Saturday, February 12, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Jay Hedrick and Elvie Hedrick officiating. Special song selections were played, and daughter Elaine Bailey shared a eulogy. Serving as Pallbearers were Kyle Dodson, Jason Campbell, Kendall Campbell, Seth Falkenrath, Todd Martin, and Richie Troutt. Honorary Pallbearers were Ronnie Martin, Bryan Medley, Chuck Radford, and Jay Quisenberry. Military Honors was provided by the Missouri Honors Team and American Legion Post 99. Burial was in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum, Missouri.
