Alene Nellie (Bandy) Fleener Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alene Nellie (Bandy) Fleener was born June 1, 1931, in Summersville, Missouri, to John Wesley and Nora Victoria (Bates) Bandy. She grew up in Flat Rock, Missouri, and was part of a large family. Being one of thirteen, Alene learned early the value of hard work and devotion. At eighteen, Alene met her sweetheart, William “Bill” Fleener, in St. Louis, Missouri, while attending Church Bible Study. Alene and Bill fell in love and were united in marriage July 7, 1951, in Webster Groves, Missouri. They were blessed to have each other for seventy-one blissful years. Alene and Bill were proud parents of six children: Tom, Richard, Kathy, Lora, John, and Susan. They later became foster parents, where they made a difference in the lives of at least ten foster children. Alene took great pride in caring for her family. She was a dedicated homemaker but did work some outside the home. Throughout the years, Alene worked for the State of Illinois where she taught others how to cook and care for their families as well as Angelica Sewing Company in Summersville. Her greatest joy was raising her own family and providing them unconditional love and support. Alene was gifted with a talented voice that she often used while cooking and cleaning. She loved to garden and used the harvest of her labor to cook large family meals and church potlucks. Alene kept herself busy, loved to plan parties, and like her father, was always helping others. Alene had a genuine and compassionate nature and a true servant’s heart. She was a lady of great faith, loved the Lord, and was a member of Salem Church of Christ at the time of her passing. Alene and Bill were previous members of Summersville Church of Christ where she supported him as Elder for many years. Alene was well-loved and adored by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to sing to them, recite poems, make her famous Christmas cookies, and read the “Manners Book”. Alene truly cherished her family and treasured the memories made together. Alene departed this life July 13, 2022 in Salem, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family at the age of ninety-one years. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Bill Fleener of Salem, MO; children: Tom Fleener and wife Joan of Jadwin, MO, Richard Fleener and wife Beverly of Jadwin, MO, Kathy Grover of Salem, MO; Lora Fleener of Searcy, AR; and John Fleener and wife Jorja of Manhattan, KS; sister: Mary Lou Beasley and husband Joe of Summersville, MO; grandchildren: J.T. Fleener and wife Crystal; Matt Fleener and wife Jennifer; Autumn Beall and husband Joe; Summer Watt and husband Dan; Spring McDonald and husband Ryan; Lydia Fleener; Josh Fleener and wife Pam; and Brendi Johnson; great-grandchildren: Allie, Blaine, Carlie, Logan, Emma, Justin, Dillon, Braiden, Molly, Silas, Hannah, Elijah, Sarah, Thaddeus, Paisley, Ashton, Alissa, Makela, Emily, and Cayden; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, daughter: Susan Tillery; son-in-law: Lindell Grover; grandchildren: Crystal Fleener, Tonya Marie Fleener, Shane Fleener, and Melissa Fleener; parents: John and Nora Bandy; brothers: James, Rado, Gene, John, and Bill Bandy; and sisters: Mildred Sullins, Mabel Sloan, Cecile Robison, Bessie Terrill, Muriel Gregory, and Grace Bandy. Alene was a great example and inspiration to many. She leaves behind a great legacy that will live on in those who admired her the most. Alene will be forever missed. Funeral Services for Alene Nellie (Bandy) Fleener were held Monday, July 18, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Tom Fleener officiating. Congregational Hymns “How Great Thou Art”, “Our God, He is Alive”, “The Lily Of The Valley”, and “Anywhere is Home” were led by Matt Fleener. Additional song selection played was “Hallelujah Chorus”. Serving as Pallbearers were Dan Watt, Joe Beall, J.T. Fleener, Matt Fleener, Silas Watt, Braiden Fleener, Ryan McDonald, Logan Fleener, and Blaine Fleener. Honorary Pallbearers were Dillon Fleener, Josh Fleener, Justin Fleener, Thaddeus Watt, Ashton Fleener, and Elijah Watt. Burial was in the Jadwin Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Alene Fleener to the Alzheimers Association - Greater Missouri Chapter and left at Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
