Betty Jo (Belt) Leathers
August 11, 1929 - February 12, 2022
Betty Jo Belt was born in Poe, Missouri on August 11, 1929, to William Belt and Oma Mae Snider Belt. On February 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to her sweetie, Charles Junior Leathers. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Jackie Dale Leathers, Janace Kay Leathers (Mahurin), Rodney Charles Leathers, and twins Mark Shawn Leathers and Timothy Don Leathers. Betty followed her husband in salvation in 1947 at the Assembly of God Church in Malden, Missouri. Together, they served the Lord by pastoring Assemblies of God Churches throughout Missouri in Qulin, Campbell, Bismarck and Marshall. She was separated from her sweetie when he entered eternal rest on October 8, 2004. Betty was the consummate hostess, always ready to provide a home-cooked meal or clean place to sleep. She canned everything Charles grew in the garden. Her green tomato relish was considered “green gold” by her family and friends. During her later years, when she was no longer physically able to cook, she served her family and friends by praying for them without ceasing. She never let a visit end without an ”I love you” followed by prayer for your future. She lived her life by the verse, “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Only eternity will tell the numbers of souls who were brought to the knowledge of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ through her life and ministry. To her credit, all her children are born-again believers serving the Lord in various ministries, continuing the work they watched in her life. Before the Lord called him home, Reverend Jack and Linda Leathers pastored for the Assemblies of God. Her daughter and son-in-law Reverend Randall and Janace Mahurin had the privilege of serving as her pastors at Living Water Worship Center. Rodney Leathers ministered in song throughout his life. Mark and Tracy Leathers lead the Navigators ministry. Tim and Tami Leathers have founded LifeHouse, a ministry to help women overcome the bondage of addiction and rebuild their lives. Her grandchildren and future generations have benefited and will continue to benefit from the legacy left by her great faith by finding Jesus as their Savior early in their lives. Betty’s graceful and merciful presence will leave an absence in the lives of those who knew her. On February 12, 2022, she left this life to rejoin her sweetie in heaven where she is, no doubt, praising her Lord and Savior with him and the two sons she laid to rest before her. Betty is survived by her loving children: Janace Mahurin and husband Randy of Salem, MO, Mark Leathers and wife Tracy of Rolla, MO, and Tim Leathers and wife Tamara of Wilton, IA; daughters-in-law: Linda Leathers of Salem, MO and Glenyl Leathers of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Kriste Crocker and husband Jason, Kimberly Pogue and husband Jeffrey, Jeremy Mahurin and wife Jennifer, Jackie Dale Leathers and wife Debbie, Jeff Leathers and wife Christy, Jerrod Leathers and wife Becky, Randon Leathers and wife Lisa, Angela Wimmer and husband Tim, Lorraine Shellnut and husband Austin, Toni Leathers and Nathan Love, Abigail Beckett and husband Jairus, and Ryan Leathers and wife Rebekah; great-grandchildren: Ashley and husband Brady, Alexis and husband Alan, Audrey, Logan and wife Erin, Shelby, Levi, Braden, Randon, Brooke, Bailey, Kayley, Ethan, James, Quenton, Finley, Piper, Arwen, Rhad, Reese, Aiden, Olivia, Kieran, Kade, Natalie and husband Gabriel, Noah, Neely, Judah, Isaiah, Gretchen and husband James, Bobby and wife Krystal, Jonas, Jon and wife Kaylee, Alicyn, Sydney and Jayci; great-great-grandchildren: Ezra, Graham, Benaiah, Gideon, Jamie and husband Nick, Alyssa, Timothy, Joseph, Kassidy, Aryah, and Phoenix; great-great-great-grandson: Waylon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
