Bonnie Jewel (Mendenhall) Lewis

Bonnie Jewel (Mendenhall) Lewis was born on July 15, 1932 in Cedar Grove, Missouri to John Wesley and Verna (Freeze) Mendenhall and passed away on December 9, 2020 at Cox Health in Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years. Bonnie was one of sixteen and grew up in the Cedar Grove/Current River area. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Teddy Lewis on September 16, 1950 in Salem, Arkansas and together shared fifty-four years of memories before his passing in December 2004. Bonnie and Teddy were blessed with three children: Kenneth, Anita, and Sharon. Bonnie was a hard worker and worked in several factories over the years to include; International Shoe Factory, Hagales, and Briggs and Stratton. She was a woman of many talents, she loved baking and decorating cakes for weddings and birthdays. In her spare time, Bonnie liked to bowl and enjoyed her scratch-off tickets. Most important to her was her family, she cherished the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie is survived by her loving children: Kenneth Lewis of Carlisle, PA, Anita Quartier of Westville, IL, and Sharon Lewis of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Adam Quartier of Wheaton, IL and Daniel Quartier of Elgin, IL; great-grandchildren: Logan and Ivy Quartier; brothers: Dolphie Mendenhall, Delbert Mendenhall and wife Edith, Johnnie Mendenhall, Dorse “Ralph” Mendenhall, James Mendenhall and wife Euylene, Gene Mendenhall and wife June, and Earl Mendenhall and wife Sherylyn; sisters-in-law: Norma Hampton and Ilene Steelman; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Teddy Lewis; parents: John Wesley and Verna Mendenhall; and eight siblings Bonnie was beautiful inside and out, she was a quiet lady with a sweet spirit and was full of elegance and grace. She will be forever missed. Private Family Funeral Services for Bonnie Jewel (Mendenhall) Lewis were held Saturday, December 19, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial was in the Gladden Empire Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
