Deborah "Deb" Mai (Luebben) Smith

April 26, 1953 - July 1, 2021

Deborah “Deb” Mai (Luebben) Smith was born on April 26, 1953, in Harvey, Illinois to Dale and Juanita (Wince) Luebben. She grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina and graduated from Grimsley High School. Deb furthered her education at UNC Greensboro and worked hard to become a Registered Nurse. She was a compassionate and caring nurse who over the years worked in the ICU for Moses Cone Health System, was also the transplant coordinator for United Healthcare, and worked in the Quality Department at Phelps Health. Deb was united in marriage to Robert Tucker and blessed with two children, Anna and Gary. On May 24, 2006 she was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Mark Smith and to this union she gained a daughter, Nitann and four grandchildren. Deb and Mark together shared fifteen wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and doting grandmother. Deb treasured the time spent with her family and the memories they made. Deb loved playing the organ and played for many churches. She was talented with her hands and in her spare time, hand engraved and painted glass. Some of her projects include vases, glasses, ornaments, suncatchers, pie plates, decanters, and more. Deb loved to attend craft shows, sell her creations, and create special memories for her customers. She enjoyed posting her projects on her Sipping in Style Facebook page. Deb was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, and the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center. Deb departed this life on July 1, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri the age of sixty-eight years. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving husband Mark Smith of the home; children: Anna Durham and husband Jonathan of Illinois and Gary Tucker and Lauren Manship of North Carolina; step-daughter: Nitann Gray and husband Christopher of Texas; sister: Kathy Shaw of Maryland; four step-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death, her parents: Dale and Juanita Luebben. Deb was a loving person who will be remembered for her courage and strength. She will be deeply missed and long remembered by those whose lives she touched along the way. Funeral Services for Deborah “Deb” Mai (Luebben) Smith were held Thursday, July 8, 2021 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “One Boy, One Girl”, “Love, Me”, and “I Hope You Dance”. Serving as Pallbearers were Thomas Russell, Betty Russell, Mike Black, and Christopher Smith. Burial was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Waynesville, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
