Dewilla Kay (Dotson) Sumpter

Dewilla Kay (Dotson) Sumpter was born on July 20, 1956 at the family farm in Bixby, Missouri to William Francis and Julia (Medley) Dotson and passed away on September 8, 2021 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of sixty-five years. Kay was united in marriage to Donnie G. Sumpter on April 11, 1973 in Black, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Karen, Teddy, and Anthony were her pride and joy and she took great pride in raising them. Kay worked hard to provide for her family and was employed as a server/waitress most of her working career. She worked in several restaurants, to include the Viburnum Inn and Als Café in Steelville. Kay liked meeting new people and enjoyed getting to know her customers. Kay loved being outdoors, she spent that time mushroom hunting, gardening, and tending to her flower beds. Kay truly had a green thumb and loved taking care of all her flowers and plants. Most important to her was making memories with her family, especially the memories made with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were the light of her life and she enjoyed every moment with them. Kay is survived by her loving children: Karen (Sumpter) Phillips of Cuba, MO, Teddy Sumpter and wife Amber of Cuba, MO, and Anthony Sumpter of Cuba, MO; grandchildren: Jessie Airola, Cody Airola, Anthony Sumpter Jr., Kaia Sumpter, Madison Sumpter, and Emma Sumpter; great-grandchildren: Mariana, Stetson, and Miles; brothers: Billie Dotson and wife Grace of Steelville, MO, Robert Dotson and wife Marcella of Bixby, MO, Rick Dotson and wife Bonnie of Bixby, MO, Clinton Dotson and wife Sherry of Bixby, MO, and Stanley Dotson and wife Carren of Bixby, MO; sisters: Norma Prater of Viburnum, MO, Anna June Cleeton and husband Denny of Louisiana, and Virginia (Fern) Jones of Farmington, MO; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, Donnie Sumpter; parents: William and Julia Dotson; sisters: Shirley Wilkins, Dosia Stricklin, Betty Dotson, Lela Nienkamp, Linda Henson Cross, and infant twins; brothers: Jimmy Dotson and John Dotson. Kay was loved by so many and leaves behind lasting memories to all who knew her. Funeral Services for Dewilla Kay (Dotson) Sumpter were held Monday, September 20, 2021 in the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Pastor Adam Asher and Pastor Audrey Sumpter officiating. Song selections played were "Grandma", "Love Can Build A Bridge", "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", and "Go Rest High On that Mountain". Serving as Pallbearers were Jessie Airola, Clinton Dotson, Madison Sumpter, Anthony Sumpter Jr., Bradley Heath, and Kaia Sumpter. Honorary Pallbearers were Teddy Sumpter and Anthony "Tony" Sumpter. Burial was in the Dotson Cemetery, Bixby, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum, Missouri.
