Leona Lea (Boyher) Schafer

October 24, 1926 - November 22, 2019

Leona Lea (Boyher) Schafer was born October 24, 1926, in Salem, Missouri to Louis and Sally (Howell) Boyher and passed away November 22, 2019, in Salem, Missouri at the age of ninety-three years. Leona grew up and attended school in the Jadwin area. She was a member of Upper Parker Church and was baptized in the Current River just below Montauk Park. On September 14, 1946, she married Ethan Schafer and to this union, one son was born: Randy Lee Schafer. As a homemaker, a wife, and a mother, she took great pride in caring for her family. Leona and her late husband, Ethan, sang Gospel Music for twenty years along with Gerald and Velma Lund. Leona enjoyed spending time outdoors; whether it was camping, fishing, or her time spent in the garden. Most of all, Leona enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leona is survived by her two grandsons: Kristopher Schafer and fiancé Shay Smith of Salem, MO and Tommy Schafer and wife Sarah of Nixa, MO; daughter-in-law: Susan Schafer of Ozark, MO; three great-grandchildren: Ryder Schafer, Tripp Schafer, and Brynley Schafer; two brothers: Don Boyher and wife Velma of Fenton, MO and Sherman Boyher of Baldwin, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Ethan Schafer; son: Randy Schafer; parents: Louis and Sally Boyher; brothers: Orville Boyher, Delbert Boyher; sister: Bernadine Mooney; father and mother-in-law: Christian and Maggie Schafer; brother-in-law: Clyde Mooney; sister-in-laws: Nita Boyher, Bernice Boyher, and Betty Boyher. Leona lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be greatly missed. Funeral Service for Leona Lea (Boyher) Schafer was held Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Bro. Leroy Kunkel officiating. Song selections played were "On My Journey Home", "Some Call It Heaven, I Call It Home" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" Serving as Pallbearers were: Kristopher Schafer, Tommy Schafer, Rod Wallis, Richard Labrash, Josh Black, and Tim Briggs. Burial was in the Green Forest Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
