Mabel Naomi (Thompson) Weller

June 17, 1928 - September 30, 2020

Mabel Naomi (Thompson) Weller was born on June 17, 1928, in Hardage, Missouri to Roy and Winnie (Baker) Thompson and passed away September 30, 2020, at Salem Residential in Salem, Missouri at the age of ninety-two years. Mabel grew up in the Bunker area and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse on their farm property. At the young age of fifteen, Mabel started working at a manufacturing company in the St. Louis area. Mabel was united in marriage to the love of her life, Russell Oliver Weller, on December 26, 1953, and together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage and were blessed with one son: Russell Jr. Mabel was a devoted wife and loving mother; she spent her working years as a homemaker taking great pride in caring for her family. She had a love for children, especially her nieces and nephews, and was a babysitter for them as well as others for many years. Mabel treasured the memories made with them and watching them grow. Mabel enjoyed traveling, she traveled the world with Russell during his military career, which included being stationed in Japan. After Russell’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling the United States. Mabel had a great passion for flowers, gardens, and flower arrangements. Mabel’s flower garden was a source of pride and joy, she loved sharing her flowers with others. Mabel was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Salem; she enjoyed the fellowship there and serving in a variety of areas when she could. Most important to her were her family, she loved them dearly, especially her grandson: Spencer. Mabel is survived by one son: Russell Weller Jr. of Springfield, MO; brothers: Don Thompson and wife Janet of St. Louis, MO and Stan Thompson of St. Louis, MO; grandson: Spencer Weller of Springfield, MO; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her, loving husband: Russell Oliver Weller Sr.; parents: Roy and Winnie Thompson; and her brothers and sisters. Mabel will be remembered for the beautiful smile on her face and sweet spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services for Mabel Naomi (Thompson) Weller were held Sunday, October 4, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Emory and Lisa Wulff singing “In The Garden”, “Amazing Grace”, and “I’ve Got a Mansion”. Additional song selection played was “Lily In The Valley”. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Springfield, Missouri. The family was served by Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Mabel Weller to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth and left at Wilson Mortuary.
