Mary Kay (Hamilton) Smith was born on September 9, 1953 in Salem, Missouri, to Robert Elwood and Woody Lavern (Dunlap) Hamilton. She grew up in Salem and graduated with the class of 1971 from Salem High School. Mary was the proud mother of three children: Larry, Chris, and Melanie. She took great pride in raising her family and caring for her home. Mary was employed as a waitress and a cook for the majority of her working career. She enjoyed twenty years with Stephens Steakhouse and spent many years at the Fifth Street Pub. Her down to earth and compassionate nature gave those around her a sense that they were important. She shared a mutual affection with her customers, valuing each and every one as part of her family. Youthful and free spirited, Mary had a zest for life and lived life to the fullest. She was known for her green thumb, grew indoor and outdoor plants, and took great pride in her beautiful lawn and flower gardens. Mary had an extremely creative mind and loved to draw and paint. Mary was always very present in the lives of all she cared for. She loved spending time with her friends and her family. Her grandchildren brought her endless pride and joy; she celebrated their accomplishments at every opportunity. Mary departed this life on July 4, 2022 at SSM Health De Paul in Bridgeton, Missouri at the age of sixty-eight years. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving sons: Larry Noble of Salem, MO and Chris Noble and significant other Sara Carmack of Salem, MO; step-daughter: Melanie Thompson of Farmington, MO; siblings: Jan Davis and husband Ken of Blue Springs, MO, Carol Sartain of Blue Springs, MO, Robert “Bobby” Hamilton of St. Louis, MO, and Jim Hamilton and wife Leola of O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren: Ashley, Harlee, and Carter; longtime friend: Bill Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, parents: Robert and Lavern Hamilton. With a heart of gold and a generous spirit, Mary was loved by all who knew her. She had a contagious laugh and stunning smile, bright enough to light up any room, making those in her presence not only feel welcomed, but appreciated. Funeral Services for Mary Kay (Hamilton) Smith were held Friday, July 8, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Randy Emory and Aaron Steelman officiating. Memories were shared by family. Special Music played was “Uptown Funk”, “Watch Over You”, and “Time Of My Life”. Serving as Pallbearers were Larry Noble, Chris Noble, Austin Hamilton, Brian Sartain, Charlie Davis, Robert “Bobby” Hamilton, Levi Smith, and Scott Porteous. Honorary Pallbearers were Andrew Hamilton and Carter James Dotson. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
