Vivian Irene Curtis

Vivian Irene Curtis was born on January 1, 1940, in Jadwin, Missouri to Edgar Eugene and Lomagene (Petty) Curtis. She attended elementary school at Jadwin and was one of ten children who grew up with their loving family around the Jadwin and Gladden area. Most of Irene's working years were spent as a cook in nursing homes and she did factory work from time to time. She spent several years as a valuable employee for Pacific Care Center where she would retire in due time. Irene had a fun personality and was "Ten foot tall and bulletproof". She never met a stranger and easily connected with people. She enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets, working crossword puzzle books, and playing darts. Irene loved music, especially country music and anything by Bob Seger. She enjoyed traveling and looked forward to trips to Oklahoma and Colorado visiting her sisters and daughters. Irene loved to laugh and have a good time, she was also a good friend and took time to listen and offer a shoulder to lean on. Irene was a loving mother and her grandbabies were her pride and joy, she cherished every moment with them. She had a great bond with her sisters and treasured the laughs and good times they shared together. Irene departed this life on February 6, 2022 in Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-two years. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving children: Bill Bettigrew and Melissa McAnally of Salem, MO, Sue Maxwell and John Hudson of Canon City, CO, Vinnie Curtis of Salem, MO, Kerri Skinner and husband Frank of Hillsboro, MO, Holly Maxwell of Salem, MO; sister: Lomagene Watson of Hermann, MO; grandchildren: James Lunn and wife Emily, Karen Bettigrew, Billie Bettigrew, Jerry Todd Bettigrew and wife Brooke, Lindsey Schmiderer and husband Tyler, Shaun Will and Rene, Crystal Poertner, Alicia Hughes and husband Todd, Robert Poertner, Allen Harris, Erika Ahart and husband Rome, Ray Hudson; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death, parents: Edgar and Lomagene Curtis; sons: Ed Bettigrew and Steven John; and eight siblings. Irene was one of a kind who never failed to make you smile. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services for Vivian Irene Curtis were held Friday, February 11, 2022 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Jerry Lea officiating. Song selections played were “I Hope You Dance”, “Amazing Grace”, and Old Time Rock and Roll”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
