Barbara Ann (Boyher) McCarter

Barbara Ann (Boyher) McCarter was born on August 14, 1952, in Salem, Missouri, to Walter and Mae (Schafer) Boyher. She passed away on June 23, 2026, in Salem, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of seventy-three years. At the age of sixteen, Barbara met the love of her life, Billie Joe McCarter, through mutual friends. The couple was united in marriage on March 15, 1969, in Darien, Missouri, and shared more than fifty-seven years of love, devotion, and marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Joe and John. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and cherished time spent with her family. She especially treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the many memories they shared together. Barbara’s greatest blessing was her family. Her working career included employment at International Shoe Factory. While raising her family, she worked at Small Miracles and later retired from Walmart, where she served as a department manager. She took great pride in her work and in caring for those around her. Barbara loved farming, caring for horses and her cats. She enjoyed gardening, tending both flowers and vegetables, and sharing her bounty with others. Barbara found joy in watching and feeding the hummingbirds and deer around her home. A woman of strong faith, Barbara attended Upper Parker Community Church and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church throughout her life. Barbara is survived by her loving husband: Bill McCarter of Salem, MO; sons: Joe McCarter and wife Holly of Salem, MO and John McCarter and wife Melissa of Salem, MO; brother: Mark Boyher of Jadwin, MO; grandchildren: Jeremy McCarter, Brandon McCarter and wife Gabby, Zach McCarter and wife Articia, Kaitlyn Shaver and husband Nick, Kayla McCarter, Joseph McCarter and wife Chloe, and Sarah McCarter; great-grandchildren: William, Samuel, Chase, Elyas, Keegan, Colton, Isla, Oaklyn, Creed, Oliver, and Charlee; other relatives and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Walter and Mae Boyher; father and mother-in-law: George and Fannie McCarter; and great-granddaughter: Lillian McCarter Barbara will be remembered for her faith in the Lord, her deep love for family, her kind heart, and the joy she found in the simple blessings of life. Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Services were held June 26, 2026, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Bro. Billy Miller officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Joseph McCarter, Jeremy McCarter, Brandon McCarter, Nick Shaver, Skyler Freeman, and John Watson. Honorary Pallbearer was Zach McCarter. Burial was in the Green Forest Cemetery. The family was served by Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Barbara to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
