Betty June (Jarvis) Smith

Betty June (Jarvis) Smith was born December 2, 1932, in Goodland, Missouri, to Matthew and Goldie (Brooks) Jarvis. On May 15, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Ogle and to this union blessed with four children: Janet, Robert, Tina, and Rhea. Betty and Robert owned and operated Quad County Plumbing, serving the community for twenty-seven years. They shared fifty years of marriage and lasting memories together before his passing on November 1, 2001. Betty was united in marriage to Darrell Smith, August 5, 2006, in Oates, Missouri. Betty and Darrell were blessed to share the last seventeen years creating wonderful memories together. Betty loved to paint and took several Bob Ross painting classes. She loved to garden and share her bounty with others. She enjoyed baking and was a skilled cake decorator. Betty has made numerous cakes for weddings, baby showers, and birthdays. She was gifted talented hands and loved to crochet making gifts to give away. Betty has gifted over two hundred eighty-seven round afghans to family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have several of these treasures. Betty liked to travel and would often snowbird to South Padre Island, Texas. She enjoyed camping and was a camp host and recreation leader at the R.V. Park. Most important to her was time spent making memories with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Betty was a devout Christian and strong prayer warrior. She loved to read her Bible daily and usually with a flashlight in her hand. Betty was a dedicated member of Locust Grove United Baptist Church and previously faithfully attended Viburnum Free Will Baptist Church. She had a beautiful voice and sung in a gospel quartet for many years. Betty entered eternal rest December 2, 2023, on her birthday, at her home in Viburnum, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband: Darrell Smith of Viburnum, MO; children: Janet Medlock and husband Dudley of Plano, TX, Robert Stephen Ogle and wife Mary of Clever, MO, Tina Clements and husband Barry of Viburnum, MO, and Rhea Barton and husband Nick of Viburnum, MO; stepson: Lingell Johnson and wife Rinda of Oates, MO; sisters: Rose Gibson and Emma Lashley and husband Frank; brother-in-law: Ed Gibson of Farmington, MO; grandchildren: Travis Medlock and significant other Melissa Takahashi, Shawn Owen and husband Paul, Jennifer Wilken and husband Aaron, Rob Ogle and wife Dawn, Reuben Ogle and wife Ashley, Amanda Harris and husband Garrett, Briana Farris and husband Colt, Jacob Clements, Natasha Ewing, and Nathan Barton and wife Melissa; a host of great-grandchildren; as well as a several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death, first husband: Robert Ogle; parents: Matt and Goldie Jarvis; siblings: Bonnie Gibson, Junior Jarvis and wife Juanita; and brother-in-law: Bill Gibson. Betty lived a full life. Her legacy will live on with those who loved her most. She will be forever remembered. Funeral Services for Betty June (Jarvis) Smith were held Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Pastor Denny Mathes and Pastor Ketih Barton officiating. Special Music was provided by Kevin and Kim Abney singing “Home is Sounding Sweeter”, “Carry Me Jesus”, and “Amazing Grace” and additional song selection played was “Serenaded by Angels”. Serving as Pallbearers were Travis Medlock, Rob Ogle, Reuben Ogle, Jacob Clements, Nathan Barton, Jason Smith, Gage Harris, and Drake Ogle. Burial was in the Viburnum Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Betty Smith to the Viburnum Cemetery and left with Wilson Mortuary.
